Anxiety controls my life

I feel like my anxiety gets in the way of my everyday life. Like I still go to school and just getting off the bus sends me into a panic attack. I feel like none of my friends understand and push me to do things so that it helps me get over this anxiety but to be honest it just makes it worse. Things such as talking in a group of people, just walking around near people and simply just sitting in class makes me so nevous and afraid. My family doesnt understand and just tells me to basically get over it. I would love to get over it but I feel like this is going to stick with me forever. Im even to afraid to go and see someone about it to get help. I really dont know what to do.

Hi there phebs

Firstly can I say a huge WELL DONE to you – for coming to Beyond Blue and to be able to share your story with us.  It can be daunting at first to put something like this on-line, but I can also let you know that the people on this site are all fellow sufferers and have masses amount of knowledge and experience and no-one is ever judged here – just advice, guidance and support given.  So also, welcome to Beyond Blue.

I note also that you’ve been brave enough to open up to your family about this – that must have taken some effort – and I’m very sorry that they weren’t of the attitude to be a support to you with this.  It’s just something that you never know how they’ll respond till it’s shared – sometimes they’ll be like your family and other times, the family will be supportive.

I’m not sure of your age, but would you be in a position to get yourself off to a doctor for a proper diagnosis??  If I may, I’d like to suggest to you that on this site, Beyond Blue have a list of available GP’s to be searched for.  The thing with these GP’s is that they are all qualified in dealing with mental health issues – and this is highly important, because if it’s going to cause stress in going along, you at least want to be going to somewhere where you’ll be taken care of properly, listened too and from that given appropriate treatment and or referrals.

I’ll send this off for now and I do hope you can post back.

Kind regards

Neil
