Hi everyone I've been suffering with anxiety and depression for most of my life and for some reason I got it into my head to have a smash bros party in just over a week (smash bros is a video game, for the uninitiated) I'm told I need to socialize more, but whenever I do I just feel more isolated. It's like I feel more alone the more people are around me. I hope it goes well at anyway. I've also arranged a dnd day for wed (think complicated board game) but I'm worried I won't be able to explain the rules well enough to the new players.

Hey gnull

Good on you for giving these two things a go.

It’s obviously something that you really enjoy doing and so it would be the same for the others who are coming along.  I guess the thing with these kinds of things, is that there’s no need for mindless banter about anything – you can get into the game and speak ‘game lingo’.

With your other concern about the explanation of the other board game – ok, yes there may be newbies there that will need a bit of a crash course in it – but would it be possible to have another ‘mate’ or ‘friend’ who’s knowledgeable in the game as well;  and just speak to them beforehand, saying, “Just wondering if you’d be able to give me a bit of a hand with the explanations to the newbies about it?”   “You know, I sometimes get a bit tongue-tied, so if we can sort of do it together or that you could add in, perhaps things that I may miss, that’d be awesome”.

Something like that.

Well done again for taking on these two very positive activities.

Neil

Thanks I'll let you know how it works out. Someone who knows the game will be playing today too. I was a bit panicy when he said he might not make it.
