Hi everyone, I’m new here and I’m wondering if anyone else with anxiety or OCD has similar symptoms to me because I’m scared I’m developing a more serious mental illness. I have suffered anxiety for years and recently OCD type of thinking. I’ve managed to find ways to deal with that and was just starting to feel better, then the other morning as I was waking up I started to random racing thoughts that didn’t feel like were mine I mean not that I was hearing voices outside of my head or anything just like the thoughts were racing and were in a different voice they didn’t make any sense and were just half sentences. It scared me so much that of course I started googling it 😫 big mistake now I’m terrier I am developing schizophrenia or psychosis. I have just had serve anxiety for the past 3 months now I’m really scared that my brain is just going to completely check out. Please help I’m worried I’m going crazy

Hi, welcome

I'll try to put you at ease because putting things into a more accurate perspective is crucial.

We are all individuals so our internal struggles are unique and so is the cross over of other symptoms of illnesses. If one has one illness we could have snippets of another illness. It doesn't mean we have that illness enough to be concerned but obviously a professional member of the medical staff would be best to consult about that.

Eg I have bipolar 2, depression, dysthymia and eliminated anxiety some years ago (more on that later). My mother has undiagnosed Borderline Personality Disorder (in denial) and I'm confident I have a little of that as does my sister. What is difficult for people to separate is whether some of these issues are illnesses or personality so be aware of personality traits in your family and try not to confuse the two.

If you are a worrier (as I used to be in fact teachers used to call me "the worrier") you will panic about such things and that's when our perspective goes west. It comes down to your approach. When I was diagnosed with my other illnesses other than anxiety, my GP asked me what the difference was when in the morning I took a prescribed tablet, now I'm taking 3 other tablets "you still swallow once only" he said. Makes sense.

Then there is our own expectations. The natural and common one is to get a cure. The much more realistic one is best management along with acceptance. First lesson I had was to accept that there is no "normal" , that those with internal challenges are simply people with troubles that effect their own performance in society and the pain that goes along with it, the unlucky ones are those that have zero insight and if they did they are in denial. Those people are much more challenged and confused. So our intentions should ideally be focused on containing our symptoms so we almost fit into the "normal" zones that allows us to function in society with minimal restrictions. That might mean we are on the outer of a footy team but we are selected to play none the less.

We can also minimalise some illnesses. I found ways to eliminate my anxiety and worry.

Use google please and read just the first post of each of the following
