My psyc has referred me to get testing done.. And I'm like... Thinking OMG I may be ADHD!

Can an anyone explain the testing that is involved with ADULT ADHD? And what costs roughly are too?

What at meds are like if you're prescribed any? I'm scared to go in meds as i hear it nakes OCD and anxiety worse??

Hi Shivers88,

I don't have the answers to your questions, but you have enough information to find out more details.

Let me explain, your psych has referred you to have testing done. If you have that referral with you, you can phone the person/people involved and ask them directly how much the testing will cost and what is involved.

If the price is something you can not manage right now, then phone your psych and ask if they can recommend another option you can afford.

You could also speak with your Dr about all of this, they may be able to provide you with reputable web sites with the information you are needing right now. Drs know some amazing things!

I can well imagine you may be thinking "What is next!" with all of this. A few years ago I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD, severe depression and unresolved grief and what ever else it was.

Knowing all these things had me researching the conditions and finding ways to understand the illnesses and work on trying to make my life the best it can be. I don't always cope well and that is okay.

I do take medication, with out it I am a real mess and have been hospitalised a couple of times when I have tried to live with out it.

Hopefully someone here may have answers for you. I would suggest you start asking questions too from the professionals you already have helping you.

All the best with this journey, cheers for now from Mrs. Dools

Hi Doolhof,

thanks for reply!

Yes ear I shall do the best I can.

oh BPD? I actually thought for some reason I had that myself? I've never been on meds... But at times think that my anxiety and stress/guilt gets so bad that I feel I do need it..

what does BPD feel like? I always thought I had it. Have you experienced psychosis before? or is there certain feelings that you just feel before you're diagnosed?

i hope you're well love!

Shivers

Hi Shivers,

I was just about to log off and get ready for work when I spotted your reply.

Regarding BPD, it can be so different in everyone who is diagnosed with it. For me the biggest thing is feeling totally disconnected from everyone and everything.

I look at my family and friends some times and have no idea who they are. If I allow my mind to drift I can think all sorts of weird things and hold on to the slightest little thing a person has said and turn it into a huge negative.

There are impulses and desires to do things I know are totally illegal, disrespectful or just plain unpleasant.

Like I wrote, there are a whole lot of things and they are different for everyone. If you do consider this may be an issue for you, then have a chat with your Dr or psych or borrow a book on BPD from your library.

There are a lot of other things I could add, but need to dash off now or I will be late for work.

Generally I am doing okay and enjoy life. I try not to live by the medical complaints I have been diagnosed with. I am me and that is the main thing!

Cheers for now from Doolhof

hi Shivers- I'm not sure what happened with your testing but everything you described above sounds exactly like adhd. I had all those symptoms and was diagnosed at 40. I always thought I just had anxiety & panic attacks but in my case (not all) they were actually a symptom of undiagnosed ADHD. I am highly anxious, fidgety, restless, edgey, mind races constantly, always on a 'search' for something, very sensitive, struggle with relationships, past addiction.. the list goes on. I take meds for anxiety & adhd which helps a lot with those symptoms.

Hi guys - I was diagnosed with adult ADHD only last month. So I have been searching around net looking for information. There is some wishy-washy stuff around unfortunately. But I did find some TED talks on the subject pretty good! Also there some podcasts too.

I found I related to a lot of this info and peoples stories quite a bit! So that helped me understand that I am not the only one.
