Hello. This is new for me. I am currently in year 12 and I was wondering if anyone has ever met with a school counselor or psych before.
I never once entertained the possibility of depression or anxiety or really any of these sorts of things.

Hi Willow,
Good on you for reaching out. I hope you’re finding your way around the forums okay. If you’re unsure of anything, please let us know, and we would be more than happy to give you a hand. We want you to feel very welcome here 🙂
It sounds like you’re really struggling at the moment and I take it there’s a lot on your mind. I’m glad you seem to be considering seeing a school counsellor or psych...
I’m no longer in school. But when I was in school, I saw my high school counsellor on one isolated occasion. Although interestingly enough, I saw her for a physical health issue rather than mental health related. Anyway, she was okay...friendly and approachable enough, I suppose.
As for a psych, I currently see one and have previously seen other ones. He’s really good as he’s respectful and an excellent listener. Also, he collaborates with me rather than “dictates” my treatment and sessions, which I feel is important for psychs to empower their clients.
Granted, that’s just my personal experience. Other people will have their own take on how seeing a counsellor/psych has been.
I hope this gives you some ideas...also, I was thinking you might like to check out Headspace online. They specialise in helping young people with mental health issues via free services and information. Something to think about maybe...
Once again, great work in posting. There’s no rush or obligation but I hope we hear from you again when you’re feeling up to it.
Kind and caring thoughts,
Pepper
