Should I lessen my study load or not :/

Hi!

I'm currently studying part time at uni. I've been really struggling due to not being able to balance my study with personal problems. It got to a point where i wasn't eating well, sleeping well (staying up late to study, waking up early to go to class, only getting average 4 hours sleep), just to try to get more study done. I've now fallen behind.

I need help in deciding if I should reduce my study load for the sake of addressing my health problems (getting professional help for my stress and depression), or try to continue and balance everything.

I'm worried that if I continue with my current study load, I'll stay in this bad pattern.

But I'm also worried because if I reduce my study load, it affects my study plan. I will only be able to study one unit next semester and the semester afterwards, as I won't have completed the prerequisite for many units. I feel like a failure if I do that 😕

help please!

hello Issy, I'm sorry that you have tyo make a decision like this, but firstly can I say that your health is more important than anything else, because when you aren't feeling well then not only your uni, your life style and personal confidence will be suffering, so there will be nothing that you feel you have accomplished, so you need to get the help you need, because there will be a big chance that you will feel worse.
So many of us push ourselves to the extreme, putting too much pressure and worry on us, so that's what can cause the depression and certainly stress to increase, so eventually we're unable to do anything.
You can always go back to uni if that's what you decide on, and please this isn't failing so never think like that, your health is gold and should be taken care of.
I'm not sure whether you have seen your doctor but I certainly hope you do, because depression and stress are both powerful contributors that will affect your health. Geoff.

Hey Issy

I can relate, I'm doing my Masters at uni and when things got really bad for me, I deferred a whole semester as I just wanted to focus on my health than worrying about struggling with assignments etc

I was upset to do it and yes it's put me behind but I don't regret it. I'm now back at uni and getting HD's with a clear mind. Was worth it for me.

Health is priority, study isn't going anywhere.
