New to anxiety, really need help!

Hi, I'm a 21 year old and I've just been diagnosed with anxiety and health anxiety.

The trouble is I can't accept that I have it because I've been getting some very harsh and very REAL physical symptoms.

I get pain in the back of my head, I feel dizzy, blurred vision, stiff/painful neck, chest pains, heart palpitations and I have unexpected anxiety attacks all the time. They even wake me up in the middle of the night.

I've been put on several different medications. But with all of them I had severe vomiting and the doctors concluded I was to sensitive to any type of these medications. I'm currently not on anything.

I've had CT scans, blood tests and worn a holter monitor for 24 hours. They have all come back fine.

I've convinced myself I'm going to have an aneurysm and this fear is affecting my life in terrible ways.

Does anyone have any advice? Are these normal symptoms? This head pressure is too much!

Hi Grimmjow, welcome to Beyond Blue forums

We arent medical professionals. We are sufferers just like you with experience to boot.  When it comes to diagnosis we leave it to the ones that can give it.

However, with general anxiety, I've had it and over a 25 year span it has now diminished with only a slight trace. I had heart palpitations, dizziness, sweating and crying. I was on medication for 12 years. However the best remedy for me was -

1/ deep breathing and

2/ Progressive muscle tensioning exercises.

You can google these or seek out a therapist that promotes them.

I would suggest you accept your condition and furthermore expect it to last a very long time. Aging also helps you overcome this state.

Good luck take care.

These are all important things related to your life that you must tell your Doctor because the good news is Anxiety can be treated with the right methods & or medication. I don't know why you were on several different medicines for one very common diagnosis being Anxiety but the main thing is you've asked for help. Seek professional help because talking about this may not take away some of your pain or symptoms but getting correct treatment will for sure.  Hope this helps..

Kind regards,

Flex
