I've been Depressed since the second half of 2015. My School performance has gone off the rails. And the CBT and meds didn't work. I don't really know what to do now and I don't have much hope for the future. I'm completely unhappy with my life right now and I'm powerless to change it. Ive already done the CBT and meds song and dance so is there really anything I can even do now?

Hi 77,

It sounds like you're really struggling and the disappointment of not being successfully treated is hard to shake.

From what I've heard, some therapies just don't work well with certain people for no particular reason. Are you still seeing your doctor who helped you with cbt? Have it discussed this with them as well?

You must be quite distressed to still be up at this time. Can I ask what it is which keeps you awake?

I hope you feel safe in continuing to post here. We'd love to help you get back on your feet.

I'm not seeing the CBT doctor anymore. He was a complete idiot. When I talked about how my mom emptied an entire can of fly spray under my door because I locked myself in my room to escape her having an episode the CBT doctor thought using fly spray was a good idea.

The Psychiatrist was actually pretty good its just nothing really worked.

My sleep schedule is really terrible. I'm normally up this late. All the psych would ever focus on is the sleep schedule. But It was always spun like I was "Playing videogames all night" Other than I just cant sleep and Sometimes I need to help myself stop being anxious late at night by watching a youtube video or playing some music.

hi 77, a good idea to empty a can of fly spray well that's a 'heckle and jeckle' thought and I don't blame you for not seeing your psychiatrist, so I wonder whether you can find a psychologist instead and see if they can help you. Geoff.

Hi 77, thank you for posting and welcome!

I am sorry to hear that you've had a bad experience with your CBT doctor. As James has mentioned, not all types of therapies work on everyone, however it's very frustrating when your doctor seems to not want to help, or doesn't offer support. I had a similar experience the first time I went to see a specialist and it can really dishearten you and you loose motivate to improve your mental health.

However, I do encourage you to try again with a different doctor. I went through a couple before I found one that seemed to 'get' how I was feeling, and I am very glad I did because she helped me through the toughest of times. A psychologist can be very helpful too, as Geoff said.
