Moving on from something causing you pain

I've had a lot of things happen since I last used the forums but I'll start with the most recent event

For the past 4 years of my life, I have been attempting to make it in the video production industry, studying it at University and doing any work experience I could. However I've faced many dramas doing so from courses being changed, communications falling flat with companies I did work with and just not being cut out for the industry due to anxiety and social phobias. I've had a strong passion for movies my entire life as long as I can remember but I cannot make it work

I've decided I want to move on and try something else, find something else that I can shine in and be great at but I find letting go of the vid production thing hard. Part of my brain keeps repeating to continue, but I feel it would be hurting me to keep trying. So I need advice on how to let go, move on and try another adventure to see if I can find my calling.

Hello History fan...

Welcome back to our wonderful forums...

I am sorry it’s taken a while for you to get a reply..

It’s really hard for anyone to tell you what to do in your career except for yourself....

Finding hard to let go of your vid dreams....imo only is I think your holding on to them because it’s your passion....it’s your dream..it’s what your heart and soul wants to do.....

If your looking at following a new career is it possible for you to keep your vid dreams alive in your spare time as a hobby?

My kindest thoughts dear Historyfan.....

Grandy..

Welcome back to the forum.

Grandy has given you special suggestions.

I had an experience where I had my dream job with my own shop but it ended abruptly due to fire. I moved and can’t do the same but I have been volunteering at an op shop for many months.
it is hard to move on with your life when it was your dream and you had high hopes.

You will work out what direction will suit you.

Hi Historyfan01,

I think I was in the same position as you just a couple of months ago, except I did music at university. I have done so many unpaid internships and volunteered within the industry... I even was offered a traineeship at one point which they cancelled only 4 weeks in. After all this happened, I felt that with my anxiety and just the overall state of the industry, it wasn't for me. I don't like the people and I don't think working within music will be good for my well-being.

So I've spent the past couple of months thinking about what I want to do, and finding help for my mental illness is a huge part of this. I'm seeing a psychologist on a GP mental health plan in 2 weeks time. I'm super scared to go, but I'm excited for how it is going to help me figure out my future.

To figure out what I'd like to do, I've been writing down what I want from a job (work/life balance, decent pay, flexible hours) and what I enjoy doing (helping people, traveling to different locations). At the moment I'm leaning towards Social Work, which seems to really tie in everything I'm looking for. Maybe you can start a list to see what you'd like to do and then you can find out what gives you the same feeling as video production!
