good talking with all ages for support and advice to help you along.
You have just been diagnosed with depression and anxiety, but I wonder how long before this has there been a problem, and
I would think that this is likely.
To get you started why don't you click onto 'Get Support' at the top of this page and scroll down to 'Information Resources'
and order all the 'printed information' from BB which is totally free free but in it there is a multitude of everything on
depression and this also means of any type of depression.
Has your GP offered to put you on a 'mental health plan' which entitles you to have 10 free visits to see a psychologist, and this can be obtained each year, but first would like to hear back from you. Geoff. x

Hi 🙂
I'm 19 too and have had depression for a few years and am just starting to come out of it. It can be a difficult time to deal with it with pressures of uni/work/relationships etc. For me I found hard a lot cos everyone around me seemed so much better and handled things so easily, and this just added to my insecurity. I know it sounds weird but I think it's good that you've been diagnosed, for me accepting that I had depression was a massive step cos I stopped telling myself nothing was wrong and could start trying to fix things. Honestly, everything took time for me, sometimes I'd have days where I felt like I was fixed and then it went bad again. You just need to keep at it. Maybe try to work out some of the things that make you happy and what makes you sadder. Understanding your triggers can really help. Talking about it can help too, even if it's here where there's no pressure. I found it really hard to tell people because everyone else seemed to be doing so well and I didn't want to sound soft or different. But once you do tell someone all the pressure goes away because they will just want to help. For me it was only ever one awesome friend who I could lean on if I needed it, or just talk and make things normal again.
I know you can get through this 🙂
always happy to chat

Hi everyone.
I am a retired librarian and have been living with mental illness since my teens. Have self medicated with drugs and alcohol till I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder at forty years of age, Found an incredibly good psychiatrist who has managed my medication and I am really well and settled now. Still have the odd anxiety attack but assistance from an excellent psychologist has helped me with that. I feel that I am very fortunate to have found health professionals who are smart and caring. I have joined the BB forums to help other (if I can) in their struggle with this illness.
Best wishes Johnno
