I think I make my aniexty worse

So for the last month or so, I feel like I'm having a lot of social anxiety.Feeling lonely and isolated

I got invited to a party for work (I work as a casual for McDonalds). I originally said I wouldn't go. I felt like going would make me feel terrible as I would be left alone at the party, but then I decided "Why not?" and told them I would come.

Anyway the day of the party arrives, It started at 6:00 and was going to run until 10:00pm, I enter and discover there is not ONE person I know there. So I sat on my own for a while. Soon some people I knew turned and I went and sat them. I didn't make conversation because they were talking with each other I didn't want to interrupt them. Then I just started to feel uncomfortable, this is the first time I have ever been to a party on my own. I just couldn't stop shaking or checking the clock.

By about 7:15 I gave up, I told one of the guys I was leaving and just walked out

I now regret ever going. I wish I didn't change my mind.

I feel like my attempts to "leave the comfort zone" or "take the plunge" are disasters waiting to happen.

Same thing happened when I auditioned for a community play, I made mistakes and felt like I was annoying the entire cast and crew, I then quit the play with 5 days until opening night

Also sharing my creative artworks, one them got gratified. I know feel like I was just want to hide myself from the world out of fear I will embarrass myself or look stupid.

I don't know what to do. I feel like if I try to fix anything by myself...it just goes wrong. I just don't feel like I will ever fit in or belong. I just feel like I'm a weird outcast......

Hi Liam

Good to hear from you again.   I sure hope that the last few weeks of your holiday (and January) were spent doing good things and that it was an enjoyable time.

Ok, so you’re back to school and day one is done and dusted.

Excursions to go on.   Firstly, are they compulsory and does attendance at them go to making up points/scores, etc towards your end of year certificate?

When you say, there’s none that you want to go on, why is that?   Is it because of the subject and where they’ve chosen to go;   or is it the fact that you’ll be in amongst others who you’re not comfortable with;   or is it to do with cost?

A rumour that your formal is compulsory.    Take that as it sounds – it’s just a rumour.   And wow, that’s amazing that you found that out so quickly (ie:  the very first day back – sounds like your Year 12 group is one for the party times).   From what I understand I’m pretty sure that no-one can force another person to go to a formal if they really don’t wish too.   Having said that, you might find yourself come formal time to be hooked up with a lovely young lass and therefore will be “busting” to don your formal tux and to impress the hell out of the aforementioned strumpet.  🙂

Cheers

Hey Neil,

With the excursions I don't want to go for two reasons.

1. I had a really bad experience with a Drama excursion last year, which has scared me off excursions and part of the reason I feel my teachers are not pleased with me. I made a mistake

2. I just don't feel like it's a good idea, I just want to get through the year as fast as possible.

They did mention planning the formal quickly, and I though I was talking too soon! haha

I don't think the excursions are compulsory, but attending is "highly encouraged". Maybe the study days out of town, but I feel like I will just be un-comfortable.

Talk soon, Liam
