i'm in the final two and a bit months of high school and i have no motivation to keep going
it just seems really pointless to study for so long just to get into a uni just so i can get a job just so i can work to pay to go back to the job the next day
and it's not like I don't like learning new things because I really do!! but i just am really struggling to find the motivation and energy to actually work hard in these final months, I really hate doing badly and the way I deal with it is just to not put effort in at all because then I have an excuse and also, I'm just way too lazy
I know I can do well but I'm self-sabotaging!!!!!! and i don't know how to stop !!!!!!

Hi Evieb
Welcome and good on you for having the courage to post too!
You are amazing for posting what you have as so many feel the same way as you do and dont have the strength to talk about it.
You are going through a difficult time and its more than understandable that you feel this way. You have a ton of expectations on your shoulders at the moment
I know many people that just gave up well before their final year let alone the last few months. This is really tough for you right now. When you pass this year you can take great pride in your achievement as you will always be able to use your success to utilize a career that you find enjoyment and satisfaction in 🙂
You are a very articulate and intelligent person Evieb.....Even if you dont know what you want to do for a career/job thats okay. What would you like to do for a career/job?
There are many gentle people on the forums that can be here for you....no worries.
Great to have you on the forums Evieb 🙂
Be gentle to yourself
Paul

Hi evieb,
Firstly, welcome to the forums.
Paul (blondguy) has posted a great response above and I agree with what he has said as well, I know it is tough at the moment and the lack of motivation I think happens to many people in their final year of schooling, I know it happened to me too.
Is it the fact that you do not know what you want to do that may be causing this lack of motivation? Have you thought about any career paths that interest you at all?
My other though is, is there any teachers or co-coordinators you trust that you can speak to at school about all this and how you are feeling?
Please, feel free to post back as much as you wish.
My best for you,
Jay

Hi its been 8 years since i finished school and i still remember the anxiety and expectations of that year. I wanted to quit so many times but looking back i am so glad i pushed through. Finishing year 12 (not necessarily sitting exams) can give you a leg up in some jobs but its rare. And not a single person has asked me what my ranking was since finishing school. Try and put yourself into the present. What you need to do right now, not beyond school. I suggest you do what you can to pass.
As far as uni goes, you are young, dont go rushing into a degree coz thats the expectation. The smartest thing you can do if you have no idea what u want to do is spend some time acquiring skills for basic jobs. Barista skills, cash handling, and if youre up to it in time, a business admin tafe cert. Im unsure about where you are located but at least in my state you can do as many cert 3 certificates you want until you turn 21, maybe look into it. These basic skills will follow you forever. One day if you ever get a uni degree, you may get stuck between jobs. I suggest trying to save some money to put away into a term deposit and keep it til youre 25, u wont regret it 🙂
You may no decide what you want to do for another 10 years and thats ok. Im 26 and only just starting to think about careers (i have kids now thou). Theres no need to stress about life or what is expected of you. Live within your means and the rest will fall into place 🙂

Hi
I'm currently in my prelim year and having the exact same problem. I find it motivating to think about what's to come after school and the joy of having completed year 12. It can be helpful to create and maintain a regular study routine that includes well-deserved breaks. I also find that talking to teachers that I feel comfortable with about studying and finding motivation is really helpful. Exams suck, I know, but just remember that you only have 3 months left until it's over!! Please keep your head up and just try your best, HSC isn't the end of the world.
