Family Breakdown

I have a close family member that has been caught cheating online with a fake account, although the family member is hell bent on believing this account is real, they are willing to throw our family away to be with is "person", I am conflicted as the rest of my family are acting as if they hate the family member involved but I still love this family member as they have been a significant person in my life so now I am the only person in my family who is attempting to help them see this account for wha† it really is and i'm only 17 and it is hard to deal with this and my final year of high school. Help!

hello, can I ask you whether this family member has an existing r/ship or is married, because this will affect how the rest of your family hate him.
Being 17 and in your last year you seem to be very astute on what is going on, but how far has this member gone to be with this other person, whether they are fake or not, but what I am concerned about is whether this involves money and are they are being conned. Geoff.

First off, I'm sorry you have to go to these lengths to try to keep things together. Secondly, as Geoff says you appear pretty on the ball, however this is not a new situation, many face the same sort of thing.

In order to say anything sensible to you we do need a little more information. For example it is not the same thing is, for arguments sake, if it is the father in the family that is conversing with another lady in a dating site - as against a sister being in a similar situation.

There are is something that is probably going to hold true no matter what.

If you have had a loving relationship with that person -i.e. they love you back, then even if things do go badly it will not be a question of divided loyalties, even if other family members cannot deal with the matter, you should be able to maintain the relationship over time.

Not much point in talking now until you say more about things.
