Chronic Nausea

Hi,

I'm not really sure how this works as this is the first time I have used this website. I have been suffering from chronic nausea for over 6 months now. So pretty much I have been told I have severe anxiety, I guess I have always thought I've had anxiety but I never thought it would make me this sick. I've felt so lost the past 6 months and have found it hard to cope and the relationships with my friends and family have become difficult because I feel like I am dragging everyone down with me and I just want to be better so I can be there for everyone else in my life.

I have a lot of stresses in my life at the moment, coming close towards the end of high school, pressure of sport and my parents wanting me to do really well. I was wondering if anyone else is suffering from chronic nausea or have in the past. If so I would just simply like some advice and how you got through the constant worrying and stress of anxiety and depression and how to get through the constant feeling of being sick.

Thank you

Hi Nausea,

Welcome to beyondblue 🙂 You've done pretty well considering its your first time using these forums! Good on you for posting a well, its not always easy.

I've experienced severe anxiety related nausea; it is not fun at all and like you say, very frustrating. It does make you feel like you are wasting your time, but also you don't feel good enough to fix it. It also sucks because you don't want to feel like a burden to your friends. Those added stressors of school, sport and parents don't help either.

So what can we do?

1. Friends - do they know how you are feeling? They might understand (if they are true friends) that something is up with you right now, but I'm sure they also want to keep hanging out with you regardless.

2. Family - do they know what you're going through? Also, do they know the effect that their pressure is having on you? They might be doing it because they love you and they want the best for you, but if the pressure is having a detrimental affect on your well-being its not good

3. School - do you think you are a high-achiever? you sound really committed (which is fantastic!) but you are sacrificing your well-being for results?

4. Sport - exercise is one of the greatest things for mental health (it literally releases feel good things in your brain) but again maybe your putting too much pressure on yourself? if that's the case, maybe you could step back and give yourself time and space to recuperate?

Overall, you sound like a really well balanced person with friends and family, and an interest in school and sport, do you think that's right? Maybe the theme is that you deserve to look after yourself (and be looked after) more than perhaps you currently are. That might include talking to a counsellor and GP to help with the physical symptoms (if you already have done so, well done!)

Let me know if any of that helps

Ben
