Can't get to school

I have depression and anxiety and i just can't get out of bed to go to school. Just the thought of going makes me physically sick and I am so drained. I do well in school so it's not really about my grades, I just don't really want to go and honestly my friends don't seem that indifferent with my always being away. One of my best friends doesn't really understand and says I'm really lucky and I shouldn't be sad because I have great friends. I know I do but crying and sleeping are the only things that make my pain go away. My mum is always trying to push me to go because my attendance is low, but I feel like that is just a number and it's not worth going to school because of that.

Idk wat to do 😞

Hi WhySoSirius,

Welcome to the forum.

You seem intelligent by your grades. I'm sorry to hear you feel so sad, it's a sign you need to see a good GP or counsellor, your mum needs to help you, it can 've hard growing up and your body is making changes, you may have a chemical imbalance in your brain and body which contributes to depression and anxiety, seek help ASAP.

You will get lots of support on here, even contact BB hotline for support.

I hope my message helped you.

Take Care

Hi Why So Sirius,

There are many posts and threads here about students struggling to get to school due to depression. It is a common occurrence unfortunately.

I too suggest that you ask your Mum to take you to the Dr for a check up and maybe a referral to a counsellor.

Are there counselling or support services at your school? You could phone the school reception and ask if they have anyone who can help you.

Do you have a teacher whom you feel might be able to assist you with finding ways to cope?

If your Mum does manage to get you to school, how do you feel once you are there?

Do you have friends near by whom you can go to school with?

Hopefully you will find some answers as education is important in so many ways.

The site here has a lot of information you might like to check out as well.

Cheers for now from Mrs. Dools

Thanks for the reply,

I go to a psychologist and taking medication. I have gone to many psychs and this one is someone i clicked with, but it still doesn't seem to help. Once I get to school I am immediately filled with dread but have to put on a happy face infront of my friends. I got into my school through a special test so there is no friends living near me.

I really appreciate the help!

Well done for going to school when you can.

Try and think of only having to go through grades once and passing, because if you don't go, you will have to repeat your grade and your anxiety will increase. You are brave, I hope you can try and manage your anxiety to pass your grade successfully.

Hi WhySoSirius,

Thank you so much for posting, it's very admirable of you to share what you are going through. I hope you find comfort and support in this forum 🙂 I'm so sorry to hear that you are not feeling your best/ are not feeling motivated enough to go to school. Have you tried explaining to your mum how you're feeling/ why you don't want to go to school? As much as I would recommend seeing a counsellor/ GP, receiving support from family/friends can be helpful also/ will give her a better understanding. Sometimes we can be sad for no apparent reason. Yes, you may have loving friends and still feel down, that is perfectly okay. Although I do recommend you speak to your GP about your anxiety and depression, as well as talking to family/friends about your thoughts/feelings. If you feel as though you cannot speak to them, feel free to continue posting on this forum and we will be here for you 🙂 or maybe consider calling 1300 22 4636 (this is the number for Beyondblue, it is is open 7 days a week 24/7) and someone would love to support you and listen to whatever you have to say.

I hope today's a better day. Try and enjoy the weekend,

Demi x
