I am currently suffering from both anxiety and depression. They are both completley out of control and it is seriously affecting my ability to function.

my psychiatrist recently changed my medication. However this has led me to my mental health to seriously degenerate beyond my control. Whats worse is that i cant get into see them for another month.

My psychologist is the most useless individual that i have i ever met. He never listens and repeats the same use line everytime i see him.

I am seriously out of control here and i dont know what to do.

Hello Gumiho, one of anxiety's nasty tricks is to put our minds on a loop telling us that things are out of control. It may be that there are some things we need to attend to, but when anxiety ramps up it gives us a big general sense of being overwhelmed that creates panic.

Let's try and break it down a little. What is happening for you at the moment? What things are you wanting to do or be on top of that you feel you can't function at?

Hello Jess. My ability to function in day to day life os no existent. My anxiety is rooted in a phobia against germs. This leads to me avoiding to touching certain objects. However now i cant touch anything with out my skin crawling and my anxiety kicking into high gear.

Hi Gumiho
I had the same phobia, quite badly, & so did my brother. It took some time to break free of, and I hope the following thoughts that helped me also help you:
- Ask yourself what you think will happen if you come into contact with germs. What is the worst case scenario? What is the likely scenario? Think about people you know, for example young children, who touch/eat/have on their person as many germs possible and still enjoy good health & happiness.

- The body's immune system is equipped to cope with germs. Some bacteria is beneficial & even essential to good health. Cheese & yoghurt are two examples of wonderful products of bacteria. The body's immune system benefits from small doses of germs as it helps build up our resistance to illness.

- Behavioral therapy helped us: meeting small goals gradually and increasing challenges over time.

I will always have an awareness of germs - I use hand sanitiser before I eat when I'm out or after I use a public toilet, but to me this is just a smart way of avoiding gastro. I feel I have a healthy balance of being careful but not to the extent of restricting my enjoyment of life. I try & keep a healthy immune system so that my body is able to keep itself healthy.
