Hiya! I'm new to BB and this is my first post!
My name is Lauren 🙂
I've been going through pretty bad anxiety at the monent, but I want to put that aside for now and meet some new people.
A little about myself:
I live in SE QLD
I'm shy, but like meeting new people!
I love listening to music, stuff on Triple J
I'm a gamer
I'm interested in psychology/philosophy
I'm eager to meet some new people 🙂
Thanks for reading 🙂
(I don't know how to turn off double spacing, sorry haha)

Hi Lauren, welcome to the beyondblue forums.
I just want to let you know some important things.
First of all, post here and talk as often as you wish. We are all here to support one another. The second thing is that you should never be afraid to be honest.

Hi Lauren, thankyou for posting.
You cant turn off double spacing- its the nature of the program. So like I am now just keep typing unless you want to make a new paragraph like I am will now.
This site is anonymous but many people treat each other here like close cyber friends. Some have ongoing issues, others are more recovered or stable but have relapses, we are all so diverse.
If you are interested in psych stuff here is the place. Do heaps of reading and welcome again.

Hey all
I didn't expect such a response! Thank you all!
I just realised this for people aged 18 and below, but I'm sure 2 years won't matter that much 🙂
Hideaway, I guess I'd call myself a deep thinker rather than someone who reads blogs and books, but I would read books on it.
Anyways, does anyone have any tips on how to make friends? I don't think I'm someone who wants to have a billion friends, but a few would be nice hehe.
I know that you have to BE a friend to make friends, but I think I'm a pretty nice person. I'm probably just looking in the wrong places.
I was pretty much a loner in high school (I was pretty popular in primary school), but now that I'm not in school anymore, I'm on my own when it comes to making friends.
It's easier to talk to people and make friends online because people judge the way I am, not the way I look.
Thank you all for reading my life story 🙂

Hi Ldog,
Thanks so much for this post. It is wonderful to have something positive to read and share in. A lot of people using this site have so many problems, and that is why we are all here! We are all looking for answers and for a place to feel like we fit in.
You are a breathe of fresh air so to speak!
Regarding making friends, do you have any hobbies or interests? Can you join some sort of group to meet new people? You mentioned you have left school, do you work? Are there people you can start just saying "hello" to and see where that takes you?
My husband and I moved to a new town 2 years ago. I joined the local Country Fire Service to meet new people. The brigade has both male and female and people aged from 18 to 70. I have also joined a local Church and have made friends there. If I wasn't working I would join a craft group and do some volunteering in something I really enjoyed.
Think outside the box and see what you come up with.
All the best, from Mrs. Dools

Hey there 🙂
I'm in year 12 and I have just gone through a period where I was excluded by my group of friends after being friends with them all through primary school, and now a couple of weeks before graduation I don't have them any more. But I read your post and thought it would be good to talk to you because I thought what you have posted about yourself is similar to me.
I'm really interested in psychology and am hopefully going to study it next year at uni with exercise science. I'm really interested in music therapy and how music affects the brain. I've always thought it ironic how I want to help people get through their problems when I can't get through my own, but that's okay.
On making friends, I'm pretty reserved and I don't know how to really make friends because I've had the same ones all my life. But I always found that if you act like you would to a best friend to a random stranger then they are more friendly towards you. I only say this because I managed to make some new friends by being really crazy and I wouldn't usually do this with strangers because I'm really shy, but I guess I half knew them already so it was easier. But you can make friends anyway. I recently befriended one of the international students at my school all because I remembered his name, and no other Australian person at my school had been able to do that. So you can meet friends anywhere just through a little bit of kindness.
I think I've given you more of a life story than you did so I hope you read all of it. I wrote a lot because I don't have anyone to talk to at the moment and it's a lot easier to post online because like you said, people don't judge you, especially on this site, and actually I didn't realise how much I wrote.
Anyway, I need to wrap this up, sorry for writing so much.
Dreh 🙂

Hi Dreh!
Wow...I didn't think anyone else had the same interests as me! A few weeks ago I was thinking about music and how it affects people, so I guess that's something we both like.
And yes, us wanting to study psychology is pretty ironic, even though I'm not that interested in counselling, but it's still ironic!
I think I'm the first person to say this, but I miss school 😞 I don't miss the other students; I had ONE good friend. But I loved the routine! I'm working at Endeavour at the moment, and I've met a few cool people, but I feel left out since most of the people there have an intellectual disability (I'm nice to people, of course! But I'm the odd one out). Don't get me started on my "disability"...which is epilepsy apparently (I've never really believed it hehe)
Anyways, I think that's enough text for now 🙂 Thanks for replying!
