Anxiety & depression

I'm nearly 21 years old and I've battled severe anxiety for about 16 years now and depression for about 10. I've had a troubled up bringing and I've tried talking to people, calming methods, everything you can think of and never wanted to go on anti depressants, until now. Hopefully these will help me and let me live my life 🙂

Hi Tash,

I have much hope too that your new medication helps, I hope you stay in touch and let us know how you go. I am so glad you have stayed on your journey, you are setting an example for others to follow.

I'm not sure if it helped my recovery but I tried to foster 100% belief that I would recover and find peace and happiness, it helps to have belief.

Love to you, talk any time.

Hi jack,

thanks so much for your support and kind words.

i have started the anti depressants and I'm on day 6 of half tablets going to full tablet tomorrow. I'm feeling okay so far, apart from my emotions being up and down and a few head spins but apparently that's normal.

Im very excited about finally having a life instead of it being controlled by my anxiety. I have always sort of coped with my anxiety before taking anti depressants and tried pushing myself to new and different things. But when I'm proud of myself for conquering my fears and anxiety that's when I know it's all in my head.

im young, I'm looking forward to my bright future now I have something to help me and now I can start looking for a job now I know I won't have a panic attack every time I walk into a new environment.

People out there that are suffering with anxiety need to remember that they aren't alone and there's always support and help. But you need to tell yourself everyday that your better then it!

Thanks jack, I shall keep you posted 🙂

I feel this way at the moment, I'm really not keen on taking anti depressants but the psychiatrist has advised me too, does it stop the constant thoughts, and uncontrollable anxiety attacks? At least until I can manage myself and build a better coping mechanism.

Hi Guest_5771,

Welcome to the Beyond Blue forums, sorry to hear you are having a rough time. Unfortunately we can't tell what will work for you, that is for your doctor to decide and presumably the medication you have been prescribed should help. I think you are right, medication should reduce your anxiety so you can work on your coping mechanisms. Take into consideration all the advice you receive from your doctor regarding medication, let them know if it doesn't work as it should.

When I took anti depressants I was calmer and less anxious and later I was able to stop taking them. Talk any time.
