Over the past few months i've had really bad anxiety about how life feels 'fake and unreal' and the fear of dying. Whenever i get anxiety, i get all the symptoms and feel worthless. I really need some tips that could possibly help me.

Hi PrincessJ,

Firstly, welcome to our community and thank you for sharing your experiences with us!
I am sure that you will find the members of this community to be helpful and empathetic to your situation.

From the sound of things, you seem to be distressed in regards to your "fear of dying". It is apparent that your anxiety is causing you discomfort. Please rest assured that your are not alone in your experience. You may find that there are people on this forum who also feel the same way as you.

If you haven't already, might I suggest you book an appointment with your local doctor (GP) to discuss your anxiety symptoms and feelings of worthlessness. He or she will be able to prescribe anxiolytic medication and work with you to create a mental health care plan. With this mental health care plan you'll be able to access medicare-funded sessions with a Clinical Psychologist. Hopefully your sessions with a clinician may assist you in dealing with your symptoms.

I wish you all the very best. 🙂

Cheers,
Ken.

You're definitely not alone,

My fear of death comes on randomly, and leads to me staying up all night, even for days in a row 😞

What helps is focusing on other things, usually being around people is a big help with that. It is only when I'm alone that fear tends to come on. I get similar feelings of worthlessness like, 'Why do I even deserve to be here, I haven't done anything special', but it's irrational and silly, we don't need to have done anything special except to be ourselves when we were brought into the world. (I struggle also with standards for myself that are impossible to meet!)

Don't worry, you're not alone 🙂

If life feels fake and unreal just remember the concept 'I think, therefore I am'. Whatever is going on in your life and no matter how worthless you feel you are conscious and that is what makes you important. As for worrying about death, just try and think of anything else that you are afraid of that you won't be consciously aware of once it has happened, there isn't anything in this category other than death. I know this isn't going to instantly stop you worrying but I hope it helps 🙂

Hi Princess J and neverchild,

Welcome to the forum!

I'm glad Ken and Mr Random have already responded to you.

I'd like to direct you to a previous forum thread relating to death anxiety: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/online-forums/anxiety/fear-of-death#qglPK3HzvGGEbv8AAOnT_A

Like Ken, I urge you to see your doctor about your mental health. Getting help means you will have support (and you'll also gain knowledge, insight and coping strategies).

Feel free to reply here 🙂

Best wishes,

SM
