Thank you for welcoming me and replying my msg. It’s good to know it’s a safe site.
I want to talk about my social anxiety that I have been suffering. I do not have a formal diagnosis as yet. I definitely feel I have it for years as I feel extremely uncomfortable to talk even just among a small group of people (wherever know or strangers).
I need to do a presentation tomorrow for my work. I have all the slides here and handouts. However I feel overwhelmed as I have to speak in front of the senior management and my boss and other colleagues. Only 20 mins. I feel extremely anxious right now. I have done plenty of research and tried many times to speak. I can’t breath properly and I swear a lot. I am almost sure that I will fail no matter how I try hard beforehand !
While understanding that there is no magic wand. is there any medicine to calm down ? Any suggestions will be great. Thank you
sophie

Hi thank you for welcoming me and your replies.
Its good to know the site is safe and secure before I write.
I want to talk about my social anxiety. Although I don’t have a formal diagnosis, I know I have it for years. I am extremely anxious right now as I have to do a presentation for work Tomorrow! I have practised many times and I know exactly what I have to say. I have slides and handout etc. but every time i speak in front of a group of people, I feel uncomfortable and I sweat, tumbling. All those silly symptoms show up. There will be senior management team, my boss and other colleagues totaling 10 people around a the big table. Even if it’s among a small group of people I know! I just can’t do it. have no confidence to do it!
Is there any magic wand to remove the anxiety or any trick that will alleviate the severity? I know it’s not easy
thanks for listening
Sophie

Hey Sophie,
Presentations at work or any presentation in fact is difficult for many let alone if you suffer from social anxiety. You can be as prepared as you want but when it comes time to prepare you get the symptoms again? Super common. Don't stress to much about it.
Have you considered seeing a health professional (psychologist or psychiatrist) and receiving advice on therapy/treatment interventions? Medication may also be an option too. I do think this would be a great option for you to consider. These health professionals will most recommend using CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and gradual exposure techniques.
You may also consider Mindfulness. Mindfulness is the process of bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment. I recommend you speak to a psychologist (get a referral/mental health plan from your GP) and talk about your options.
Unfortunately there is no magic wand. Don't we all wish we had a wand to just make things happen LOL. Try super hard and focus on breathing slowly and calming down even though it may be difficult.
Hope this helped.
Look forward to your replies.
Nick.

I didn’t go ahead with the presentation yesterday because the boss was sick away. Not sure good or bad news. It was extremely distressing for me. So I still have to suffer tomorrow when i start all over again. 😞
I don’t like seeing a psychologist and bring this up this kind of experience/ feeling. Sigh!!!!
I can’t let other people know I have suffered this much though! I am falling apart now !
