Recently Bipolar Diagnosed

Currently 26.

The more research I have done on Bipolar; the more it all makes sense.

For years I was medicated with antidepressants for an anxiety disorder.. Mainly because the psychologist wouldn't listen to my full story and ignored the fact that I have alot of mental illness in my family tree.

Been on mood stabilizers for almost 2 weeks. Feeling alot better then I was! But I still have a long way to go before I am completely stable.

Just looking for people in the same situation who are looking to make their life as healthy as possible.

Hey Oberon,

Thank you so much for your lovely message! I am really happy that I found my 'calling' in life. Having a purpose or passion is important, and can act as a protective factor for individuals prone to mental illness. That probably wasn't worded so well, but it made sense in my head!

I hope recommencing your psychology studies (on campus this time) goes well!

Best wishes,

Zeal

Hi Zeal!

That made sense.

You're saying:

Having a purpose or passion, is an important part of anyone's life due to the fact that it provides an outlet or distraction from stresses in life.

Life is just a balancing act. ..

Hi OberonX,

How are you? Your thread just popped up on my Threads page. Hope you are doing okay.

We had a long weekend here in S.A. so my husband helped me out in the garden yesterday. It was a cooler day so great for getting jobs done.

He became very enthusiastic and used the ride on mower...and mowed down shrubs I have been tending to all summer! I tried to stop him but he just waved me out the way! Oh dear.

At least we managed to work together with the chain sawing of the trees that needed attention, so the right trees at least were attacked. Ha. Ha.

One day he pulled up all the geraniums from the fence line as he didn't like them, he thought they were weeds!

My Mum had my Dad pull up the wisteria one day when I was at work and they were staying over as Mum hated the wisteria! Mum had asked what Dad could do while I was at work, so I had suggested he cut up the dead bush. Came home and the wisteria was gone, the dead bush was still there.

Not sure why I had not noticed your posts earlier! Cheers for now, from Dools

Hello OberonX - just want to say hi and welcome. I've been a bit absent from the forums lately and missed your original post sorry.

I'm Kaz and I have a thread you might be interested in - This Bipolar Life. Our moderator Sophie mentioned it earlier. We have a great group of folks there who live with bipolar, some of us quite recently diagnosed. You are very welcome to join us, just pop in and say hi.

Starting on mood stabilisers isn't always easy and as you know it takes a while for them to kick in. But in my experience, it's worth the wait. For me, the diagnosis was welcome, because it helped me understand a lot of things, especially about my past, and my family (clearly genetic in my case, though undiagnosed). But again, it's not easy and some quite challenging things can pop up when you're not expecting them.

So, if you want some company of fellow travellers, do join us. And of course keep posting here amongst the very excellent company you've found. 😀

Very best wishes to you

Kaz
