Hi All,

I am new to this forum seeking some support.

Having depression and anxiety has been very self crushing for the last 10+ years. Work is had as well as life.

Any guidance, thanks.

hello Ippygirlgr, welcome to the site, and yes depression and anxiety can only pick up it's pace and then become heavier and become such a burden on us that we would never want.
It doesn't matter whether it begins at home or at work, once it starts it affects you in all parts of your life, so you can't keep thinking that it will pass, that's one thing depression doesn't do unless you see your doctor and get the ball rolling.
It would be great to hear back from you and let us know a little more and please don't be afraid, we have been through this ourselves and even some people are still suffering but have replied to others trying to help them. Geoff.

Hi Ippygirlgr,

A warm welcome to you 🙂

10 + years of anxiety and depression would be very exhausting. No wonder you're sounding perhaps drained, frustrated and deflated.

I have struggled with both but (much) more so with depression. It is exhausting. Both are tiring and zaps our emotional reserves. I agree that it's very hard. It's like a daily battle and it can take its toll.

I'm concerned about you- and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong- but seeing as you have had it for 10+ years, am I right to assume that you have seen a doctor and other mental health (MH) worker (e.g. psychologist, counsellor, etc) about your struggles? I'm only asking as having the right professional support on side can often make a huge difference.

Although I think personal support from friends, family and the community complements professional support. The 2 go hand-in-hand.

Some people find lifestyle changes helpful too in terms of healthier diets, exercise, etc. In saying that, I also understand that sometimes depression and anxiety also acts as barriers to making changes e.g. feel unmotivated, nervous to try a new exercise class (for example), no interest, etc.

Anyway, I know very little about you. If you like, it would be awesome for you to come back and tell us more about yourself. It would be great to get to know you a bit more...

Kind thoughts,

Pepper

Thank you everyone for the wonderful words of support.

Yes I see my GP and speak with my counsellor regularly.

My backstory - about 10+ years ago everything just started to overwhelm me and I was constantly feeling down and anxious and for a few months I wondered what was wrong me. I went to my GP and he sent to a counsellor who diagnosed me with depression and anxiety. In consultation with my GP they agreed that medication would be of a benefit along with breathing and relaxation exercises. Over the years I have only had 5 bad episodes including this one. Each one has started out of nothing, nothing in particular set them off. I could feel them building but they didn't ease for about a week or two.

Over the last few years, I started calling Beyondblue and each counsellor I have spoken with have been extremely helpful. This time I thought I would read some forum pages and got the courage to write. It has been of great assistance reading the forums.

Thank you to everyone for your helpful tips and kindness. Life is starting to get better and lighter.

Many thanks all xox

Hi Ippygirlgr,

The best way, in my opinion, to go through anxiety is seeking for help but definitely be surrounded by a nice and healthy environment with people who supports you. Make sure you do something that you really like every day and pick what are the facts on your daily routines that make you feel anxious. Detecting the root of the problem will always help to solve it.
