Lost my first full time corporate job

Hey everyone I lost my first ever corporate job I had for six months after I graduated from university few days ago. I am feeling lost, shocked, and my confidence greatly impacted

Welcome here to the Forum. A good move as if you look around you will see many who have to cope with losing a job.

While I guess this may partly depend on what happened I can't say I'm surprised, as many firms exist on short term contracts themselves, and if the future is not looking good they adopt a policy of discarding those that have been there the shortest time first - and 6 months is not that long. A similar pattern if the organisation changes what it is doing, and needs staff with different skills.

I don't really thing that it is going to be a failing in you. Anyone that attains a degree has gone through at least three grueling years showing both determination and ability - traits employers value.

So you you are back looking for another job. This can be a pretty soul-destroying procedure -if you let it. Can I suggest devoting mornings to job-seeking, and in the afternoon and evenings live a different life, not dominated by letters, phone calls (and if you are lucky) replies.

Thank you for reaching out, and welcome. I'm sorry to hear that you've lost your job, what a disheartening experience that can be. 

I've heard this happen to people many times. It can be quite common for corporate businesses to cycle through employees fairly quickly, unfortunately.

Something to note here, you've earned yourself a great skillset during your time at university that will be attractive to potential employers, particularly now that you've got this corporate role on your resume. That has still given you valuable practical experience.

If you're finding that you need a part-time job to sustain yourself while you seek similar employment, you could try searching for something in an admin or reception position until you've found something more substantial that aligns with your skills and experience from your degree. Being employed in this kind of role can also be a good demonstration of your work ethic and drive, too.

As Croix has said, if you designate a small portion of your day towards looking for jobs, then it allows you time to disconnect and do other things so that the job search doesn't become overwhelming. As someone who graduated about six months ago and is still looking for a position that aligns with my skillset, this is valuable advice.
