I'm new and this is the first step I've really taken to do anything about my depression. Up until now I've joked about it to my friends when in fact it's my reality. I'm in uni and it's really affecting my work. I feel so alone and scared to explain to people because I know they just would not get it.
My brother is not doing well and all my energy is gone. I miss my mum so much but she's coming back soon. I feel like its affecting all my relationships. I don't know whether it's better to just open up about everything or not. I don't want people to view me differently. I've been bottling everything up but I'm breaking.
I just want someone to talk to

Hi NatalieK
I am so glad that you have found yourself here and that you have come to get some support, I can hear how scared you are to speak up and I am happy you have. It is so brave to speak up and ask for help and say how you are feeling but I am so very proud of you for doing that tonight.
Uni is really tough and it is hard to manage being away from home and studying and maintaining grades and making new friends, it is all so much, and I can hear that you are worried about your brother too.
I think it would be wonderful if you could open up to your mum and tell her how you are feeling and perhaps together make an appointment to see a doctor to have a chat about your depression and how they can support you and provide you with some help, it is so very important to speak up and say if you are not feeling so well. As you mentioned, by bottling it all up you are breaking. I hope that you have found some comfort in coming here to chat and to get how you are feeling off your chest, we are here to give you support and help you through this time so it is so great you have joined and spoken up.
I will tell you the reason that your post jumped out at me and that is I have just recently lost my brother and he was 19 years old, he suffered anxiety and depression, he was not formally diagnosed, he didn't go to a doctor, in fact he never mentioned it to anyone, he just carried on with his life as if it was all just peachy....he mentioned in a letter to us that he wish he could communicate with people and that he could speak up....so that is what i am hoping that you can do for you, is speak up and get some support and some help and get on the track to wellness so you can go on and have the wonderful life you deserve.
We are here for you anytime Natalie K and I hope that you come back to chat.
Big hugs to you
