I have a phone booking with my gp tomorrow although I drove past some counselling places today but didn't go in... i am obviously suffering from depression issue I haven't spoke to anyone about before.
I this come about due to some dangerous thoughts yesterday.

I spoken to friends about it today and they were really good.

Crying sucks.

We're so sorry to hear that you're suffering at the moment. It sounds as though you are needing some support and we are so glad to hear that you have booked an appointment with your GP and reached out to a friend. These are great steps and we think you are so strong. It's so important to be proactive in taking care of your mental health and you have done this - well done!

Your GP will be able to refer you to some ongoing supports. However, in the meantime please know that there is always help available to you in these moments where you are having dangerous thoughts. Some of these 24/7 counselling services include: And if you find yourself in a situation where you become an immediate danger to yourself, this is an emergency and you should call 000 (triple zero).   Many in our community have also been through similar experiences and will be able to talk through this with you. It's hard

I don't know where to start.

I'm sure that I could ramble on a bit but I'll just keep it short today. How did you end up going today - did you keep the phone appointment with your GP?

Thanks for sharing. Talking about depression can be hard although it sounds like you have already taken the first step by talking to some of your friends, i'm glad this helped! You say your friends were really good when you opened up to them, was there anything in particular that they said or did that helped?

I think you'll find that counselling can be helpful as well. As a heads up it can take some time (as a rule of thumb they say it can take up to six counselling sessions before you see a big improvement in your symptoms although after this there is about a 90% success rate for therapy). Remember if you don't gel with the first counsellor you have you might just need to find someone else more suited to you. Your GP should be able to organise all of this for you and it may even be government funded so you really have nothing to lose! Hope you're feeling better today.
