Hello there,
I am new to the forum. I have been feeling depressed to varying degrees for several years now. More recently, it has become a lot worse to the point where I decided to search for help and I came across this forum.
At the start of the year, I decided to move to Australia and travel around the country in what I hoped would be a life changing experience. Although, I have got a lot out of it, I have also experienced feelings of loneliness and a sense of not making the most out of it.
Although I have fleeting times of enjoyment, these are outweighed by down days and weeks. Another feeling I have is that now I know the world is much smaller, I feel like there is less of a light at the end of the tunnel as I have already tried moving to a different country for a fresh start.
Anyway, that's probably enough for now. I'd like to chat to people with similar thoughts or if people have any advice, that would be great.
Thanks,
H.

Hey Guest, welcome to the forums and well done for reaching out. You will find that you have landed in a very supportive environment and full of support.
You should be having a marvelous adventure being reasonably new to the country so lets get that smile back on the face and ensure that you love it here.
Depression plays with our brains in strange ways. Have you sought out clinical help? If not, be best to go visit the GP and discuss what is going on. You may even get a referral to a psych to discuss it.
Medication is available and please do not be stigmatised by it. If you have thick blood and were prescribed thinners you wouldn't think twice about taking it so meds for mental health is exactly the same. I didn't have them for nearly two years of my PTSD journey but eventually got on them and don't regret it one little bit.
You are not alone in your journey, there are so many others exactly the same as you. You can get on top of it and there are literally millions of people around the world that lead fully functional lives whilst living with depression.
Please keep coming back and posting to let us know how you are going and make that booking with the GP, they are there to help you.
Cheers
Mark.

Hi Mark,
Thank you very much for your reply.
Are there any numbers I can call? The other issue is I'm not sure what health cover I have so don't know whether I can simply walk into a Doctors (or can I?).
Any further advice would be good.
Thanks,
H.

H, I reckon if you were to give the beyondblue help line a ring on 1300 224 636 they would be able to answer those questions for you.
I have an idea but without knowing your exact situation with health insurance etc, I would hate to give you incorrect advice.
Let me know how you get on.
Mark.
