Hi...I am a 43 year old male based in Perth WA. Great to meet you all.
I don't know where to start. I've suffered from some form of depression most of my adult life. Alcohol has mostly masked the gloomy feelings and self doubt. In the last 5 years I've gone through a lot what with me and my wife emigrating to Australia and also the birth of our first child. I recently went to a doctor who prescribed me with medication - which has improved things a little. I am looking for guidance who I can go and see to talk about my problems. I've seen people in the past but I've struggled to articulate my feelings and to be honest not really found it helpful. I'm wondering if anyone knows of like minded guys groups in Perth that meetup regularly?
Thanks for listening.

ogtbird, welcome to the forums. Great that you are with us in here and you have joined a very caring community that is free of any stigma.
Not from WA but i think i can share some thoughts with you.
With the drink, i have a couple of mates that go to AA meetings. The uniform things they say are that they are nothing like what you think they are. The idea that the room is full of old blokes, unshaven in dirty baggy clothes could not be further from the truth. It is genuinely a wide variety of the community there. Perhaps go to one of them and see what you think? There is no pressure to say anything, you can just sit there and take it in.
When you say you have seen people in the past, is that a psych? If so, did you open up fully and tell them everything as to what was going on? A trap that a lot of people fall into for a variety of reasons is to not tell the full story. Psychs need the full story to work out the best way of treatment.
Jump on the net and do some googling for mens groups in Perth. There has to be some going.
Mark.
