Feeling overwhelmed

Hi. I’m new to talking about my problems but I’m totally overwhelmed at the moment. On top of life’s usual struggles and coping with isolation I have a landlord who has made my life hell ever since I moved in. Now he has told me to move out because I asked him not to do an inspection because of the virus. I have suffered from anxiety and depression for over 20 years and am on a disability pension. I have put up with this run down house so I could keep my cats but now I can’t find anything can afford and keep my cats. They are the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning. Just thinking about applying for anything makes me break down. This procrastination is making me run out of time.

Hi, welcome

what a problem!

I can only say what I would do frosty. I would have allowed him an inspection and not re-entered the house for a couple of hours. It might be still salvageable? Contact him and tell him you will allow him to inspect but your reason was the virus concerns.

The other issue is future accommodation. I’m also on DSP so I understand . If you have some savings then buying a cheap caravan might be an option you haven’t thought about. Many vans are only $2000-3000. That gives you mobility, freedom from landlords and freedom to move. Your cats will adapt also.

You could pay rent in someone’s backyard. Try to get one with toilet and shower if your vehicle can tow it. Ask any questions about this option as I’ve just built my second caravan and am well versed.

Unfortunately this landlord has made my life very hard. He doesn’t follow any landlord rules but imposes rediculous rules on me like three monthly inspections on a house not fit to live in. It’s asbestos and full of mould just to mention a few things. I do want to get a van but have no savings and not physically able to do much but just trying to look at ads for houses upsets me let alone applying. I am spending too much time alone because of isolation and getting too depressed to get out of bed some days.

Hi frosty

I understand your lack of motivation- but you have to sometimes go against the tide.

It doesn’t matter that the house isn’t worth inspecting, it’s his house and he wants to inspect it. Are you going to wait until the police extract you? What will then happen to your cats?

Time to act and swallow your pride. That will give you time to plan
