Hey guys,
i have been suffering from depression and anxiety for 6 years now. Right now I am at my lowest and struggling to see a way out. I am trying to find new ways to deal and be happy however not finding it very easy.
I am trying this to see if it helps before seeking further help. I am just after someone to speak with who can help me see the light.
i hope to hear from someone soon.

Welcome to the beyond blue forums.
I was diagnosed with Depression when I was 19, and I suffered in silence for 5 years from the age of 14. I didn't seek professional help till later. I went to the GP first, and it was really hard to admit I had a problem, but I knew I had to do it, cause as you say, when we feel we reach our lowest point, we have no where to run but simply, get help. I went on and got assessed by the GP and was given a mental health care plan, and which enabled me to get some free counselling.
I think you should be proud of yourself for taking the first step to seek help here. There are wonderful people on here with real stories and are very compassionate in their posts. I can't give you much specific advice based on what you shared in the first post, but you're welcome to add more should you feel comfortable.
Please stick around.

Hi Tori1989,
Firstly, welcome to the forums.
Sorry to read what you are going through, mental health is such a tough one and well done for reaching out for help. There are many great people on these forums who you can talk too about what you are going through, we are here to help. I personally suffer from anxiety and have dealt with depression as well although undiagnosed.
Have you ever spoken to a GP or a psychologist at all about your depression, I know you said you want to try this out before seeking further help but I really recommend speaking to your GP at least... all this stuff works hand in hand. We can listen to you and give advice where possible but we are not mental health professionals so just keep that in mind.
Recovery from depression is a journey, what are you currently doing to help yourself, do you have a support network meaning any friends or family who knows what you are going through? I know it feels low but you can come out of this.
Please also keep in mind you can call the Beyond Blue helpline on 1300 22 4636 24/7 to discuss anything you are feeling.
My best for you,
Jay

Hi Tori1989
Good on you for posting!
BballJ (Jay) is spot on with seeing a GP. The GP's have very good training with depression and will help guide you towards having peace again.
I understand your pain as I have had both depression and anxiety for a long time but I see my GP once a month to keep myself in a good place as much as possible
Depression symptoms can be alleviated with regular ongoing counseling too
I really hope you can stick around the forums and let us know how you are going Tori
you are not alone here in any way. You are strong by posting here and well done to you. The forums are a safe and non judgemental place where you can say whats on your mind
please be kind to yourself and see your GP
Paul

I've had depression on and off throughout my entire life, but mostly for the last 22 years, it destroyed my marriage, and it's curse that we wish we have never had it.
It doesn't matter how long anyone has had depression, it's still unbearable, although when it's a long time you learn to live a life full of depression, anyway we want to help you and yes there is help, so please let us try and make you able to see the light much again.
We will be with you and hope you can trust us. Geoff.
