Anxiety/Hangover

Hi All,

I suffer from Anxiety and have had panic attacks in the past. After suffering for years, tried counselling and natural remedies. After a stressful event my anxiety was terrible. I decided it was time to take an antidepressant. Definiety gained weight as a side effect. The medication helps but the Anxiety is still there. I had lunch and afternoon planned yesterday, Bbq and drinks. I drank lots of wine (red) and basically at the end I couldn't walk. I don't think this has ever happening before. Yes, been drunk but to lose control was scary. I was in bed by 8pm with help. I heard a few things I did and I feel competely sick. I only have a few drinks once a week. Just wondering if I should give having a drink a miss or change to a lower alcohol drink. I have read these posts in the past and they make me feel like I'm not alone. Thanks x

Hello Thirty Something

Scary stuff drinking, antidepressants and anxiety. Not a good mix hey, as you've found out. Pleased you have found your way to Beyond Blue (BB) forums. Welcome!

People here are friendly, caring, supportive and have experience with mental illness. We're not able to make diagnosis as we're not counsellors or therapists.

I have PTSD, anxiety and depression and take medication for depression but not for anxiety. I manage my anxiety using a range of different things - slowed breathing, distraction, meditation, grounding, mindfulness, exercise, eating healthy foods, limited alcohol intake.

At one time during the worst of my symptoms I did take medication for anxiety - it meant no alcohol due to the numbing effect on the body. I suggest you talk to your GP about the medication you are taking and how alcohol affects the body while you're on it.

Let us know how you get on.

Kind regards
