Hi there,

Just another person starting out on the forum, I've been having difficulties for over 15 years and right now it's really hard for me. I don't have any siblings and my grandparents, aunt and uncles have passed away, I don't have a good relationship with my parents and moved out at 18 so as such I don't really have anyone to turn to as I don't have family support or any real life friends (I have a boyfriend who resides in USA).

There's so much I know I should be doing, I have assignments for uni I should be doing, I have commission work I need to get started on but I have no energy. I don't enjoy doing anything anymore. I used to be so inspired by everything around me but now I can't find an inkling of what I used to have. It's frustrating and it looms over me, but I feel like all the energy I have is spent just trying to keep up a sense of sanity and as such it's almost as if I have no time for anything anymore yet I spend plenty of hours paralysed by rumination.

Just came here to vent my feelings a little, hoping that maybe some others feel the same at times and know how to get out of this trap. Looking for a friend or someone to connect/swap stories with.

Hope you're all having a blessed day 🙂

Hi,

Welcome to beyond blue.

Juggling work and study and everything else can be difficult at the best of times. For various reasons I am taking a year off uni because of mental health problems. Even in the 1st term of last year I dropped from 2 subjects to 1 because I was worried about failing. Depression and anxiety were really messing with my mind.

As far as rumination is concerned there are a few tricks you can do such as relaxation exercises. There are also apps you can install onto your phone. If you are interested I can post more information. You can also look at threads on the forum about mindfulness.

Since you are at uni you might be able to get support from counseling services at University? Me... I have a psychologist and psychiatrist who I speak to on a periodic basis. Finding someone to talk to is very important (at least for me).

There is so much that I have not said, could say, but there are size limits on posts. Suffice to say that you should find lots of support and help from others here on the forum. While it is a virtual space, it is the next best thing to real life. And you can also head over and say hello in the cafe thread in the social zone.

Look forward to hearing more from you and welcome again.

Peace and blessings,

Tim

Thanks Tim,

I've been deferring a lot due to mental health issues, I originally started in 2014 so I can see where you're coming from, I'm interested in app, which ones would you recommend? I currently use Replika and Wysa. As far as counselling goes I don't actually go to campus anymore and have been doing my coursework remotely this trimester (live 5 hours away from campus) so it's not really easy for me to muster the energy to go there, I do have my school counsellors email however and drop her emails from time to time.

I find it unfortunate that as I'm 27 I'm outside the age bracket for support services such as headspace which I used to use, I was wondering if there were any similar free mental health services for people who are struggling.

I appreciate the warm welcome, have a great evening 🙂
