Unexplained Constant Nausea and Fatigue

Hello everyone,

First of all thankyou for creating such a place for people in need to reach out for help and to offer support to one another.

I have been suffering on and off from stomach nausea and fatigue for almost 2 years without an identified cause. I have seen many GP's and Gastro's, I have had Ultrasounds, Scans, Blood Tests, Endoscopy and Colonoscopy. I have tried different medications for relief to no success. My results show mild Eosophagitis and mild Gastritis of the body. Which to my understanding should not explain my symptoms.

9/10 Mornings I wake up early in the morning feeling sick in my stomach, it worsens when I eat breakfast and some days it is so bad that I cannot get out of bed. It also comes with fatigue and very low energy. I am also rapidly losing weight due to lack of appetite. And often have Diarrhea

The reason I am writing today is to gather people's thoughts on what I should explore next.

Is it possible that this is anxiety related? Is it possible to have anxiety related illness without realising that you have anxiety at all? I am generally a worry wort and always thinking. But I don't have panick attacks.

I am running out of ideas and this is one area that I am yet to explore. I am 28 years old, i live a very healthy and active lifestyle, i am concerned for my future.

What advice do you have for me?

Thanks, Rob.

Hi Rob

This is not medical advice which I’m not qualified to give, but just a suggestion to look into. I just wondered about the possibility of gut dysbiosis, intestinal permeability and bacterial overgrowth. I was found to have all of the above following a period of intense stress. It was actually a naturopath who identified these things following advanced microbiome testing. Unlike you I did have abnormal blood test results linked to a liver condition but those results normalised after taking supplements and dietary change. Further microbiome testing 3 months later showed the intestinal permeability had healed, the gut was rebalancing and the overgrowth was greatly reduced. I’d had increasingly debilitating fatigue for sometime and that is now minimal.

I just mention those things as they aren’t always looked into by drs and specialists (though that’s starting to change). I’d had all the same tests that you mention above to no avail and no improvement. But after the supplement and dietary change I’m doing much better. Naturopaths vary in their approach so if you went to one I’d look for someone who does advanced microbiome testing. Note this is just a suggestion and may not be the cause. Also the testing is not covered by Medicare.

In my case I think stress, anxiety etc were factors in developing these symptoms. Chronic stress in the autonomic nervous system can change gut composition and function over time. I hope you find some answers soon.
