Undiagnosed Acquired Brain Injury

I'm seeking advice from anyone who has had brain scans/imaging (structural and functional) and discovered that they have had a significant brain injury (possibly from childhood trauma, or cerebrovascular accident). And, has any discovery provided benefit to your treatment and quality of life? Is it worthwhile seeing a neurologist?

This is an interesting question to post on the forum.

I can't speak from specific clinical experience of this question but can relate it to personal experience of a family member of mine. My father had an annual physical health check and the doctor wanted a few more tests to be certain things were okay. During these tests they found that he had a small heart attack many years prior. It was impacted the functioning of his heart and he is lucky it was found. He was referred to a cardiologist and was placed on the appropriate treatment. If it hadn't been found, he might have had a second and more significant heart attack. I am very grateful that the scan picked up this previous incident. In my father's case, it was a good outcome to his quality of life.

I can't say specifically if you would benefit from seeing a neurologist or not. This question would be important to discuss with a health professional such as a GP. They will be able to discuss with you your concerns and advise you on what is the best path for you.

To answer your question, the answer is yes, especially if there has been a significant brain injury, either recently or in the past.

I've had a TBI caused by an assault while manager at a pub where a couple of bikies attacked me from behind and if you have had an injury from a childhood trauma then I feel so sorry for you, because if what's happening to you is as the same as what's been happening to myself, then my heart bleeds for you from the all the after affects.

You will need to know from your doctor or a neurologist whether you need to take any medication, I must take anti epileptic medication as this was caused from the assault.

You will need to see your doctor to get a referral to see a neurologist, they will know someone.
