Hey Max,

Thanks for sharing an interesting point mate. Your iq is "only" in the 160's? Mate, you are genius in that case! You are in rare company if your iq is that high.....

While I haven't experienced what you say directly (truth be told, I may not be clever enough....) I hear your point. In the company of high intelligence, if somebody feels they may not be on your level then this can be conveyed in an insecure way. Perhaps we perceive this person to be threatened? Perhaps they are? You don't really know unless you are in somebody else's head. Insecurity manifests in strange ways in the company of people it perceives as different.

My only suggestion is to try to be as aware as possible at all times, without judgement. This way, we get a somewhat less filtered view of the world and can see clearly - people for who they are, and all the underlying traits that may be present at that time. All the best to you.

Steve

Hi Max

I was a MENSA kid, though not quite to your level, so I can empathize with what you mean about being stigmatized for being intelligent.

When speaking with doctors, I feel that the mere fact that we have run an initial self-assessment, using their diagnostic processes, with a view to help them in determining what our ailment actually is, often results with their unwarranted assumption/s that all of our ailments must be psychosomatic.

But if I act stoopid, and withhold the information on my self-assessment, and ask them to explain what I already know and understand, then they are more than happy to help. If experience has taught me anything, it's that people (particularly doctors) feel threatened whenever a smart person knows their job.

@TheSteve
Good point on the underlying traits that are present at that time. I hadn't considered the transient traits, but will do so in the future. Thank you for this insight.

Hi Maxwell,

I certainly don't perceive myself to be anything other than of average intelligence. I have been to psychologists who tell me I am better than my depression, that because I have an understanding of my depression I should not be so depressed!

How on earth does that work! Yes, I could learn every technique available to help with my depression, but when I am suffering severely, having all of that knowledge but no strength to put it into action, is not going to help me.

It must be very frustrating for you to feel as though you are not being listened to, that your issues are not acknowledged as being legitimate or worthy of assistance.

Hopefully you can find a way to be heard.

Cheers from Dools
