Hello!
I would love some information about starting an Antidepressant during late pregnancy (currently 36 weeks pregnant) I have a scheduled C Section in 3 weeks time. This is my Third child. The last 6 weeks I have become very disconnected with life, low self esteem, and anxiety. I have been on medication in the past due an episode of depression around 7 years ago. I was on that medication for about 2 years. My doctor, OB and counsellor think it's best to start the medication now. I'm just worried about possible side effects during the first few weeks and being so close to giving birth, but I'm really over feeling this way too. I would be going back on the medication. Since being on this before (7 years ago) and no real issues from what I can remember. Would my body just recognise the med and have no real issues adjusting. I'm still torn between waiting until after the arrival or start now.
Thank you

Hi Belle,
Congrats on having your third child, that is terrific news. In regards to the medication, it really is a combination of you assessing how you feel now and how you think the medication will improve your life in the coming months; and adhering to your doctor's advice.
Try not to overthink it - you know yourself better than anybody as to whether or not you need a bit of help right now and if the medication is the right path. If you feel this is the case and the doctor confirms your decision is safe, go with it. If you feel you can get through without it, then make your own call.
Try not to overthink it as this will just cause more stress. All my best to you and your family.
Steve

I first started medication at 28 weeks it was decided that if the medication was to offer some form of stabilisation that it was better than trying to stick it out and wait really the best people to speak to are PANDA and your dr or obstetrician. PANDA helped me initially when the GP was just dismissing me they even had me talk to a pharmacist ect and offered to talk to my GP. You would generally start on a low dose and then build up post birth also medication types are based on if you will wish to try and breast feed ect.
a discussion to you care providers now will help with the transition post birth but keep a open mind as to what you want as well.
