Starting antidepressant, scared

Hi everyone, hoping to get a little perspective from those who have been successful with meds. I'm about to start a SSRI antidepressant for anxiety and remember from having taken a different antidepressant medication years ago how bad the initial adjustment period can be - increased anxiety/ panic, nausea etc.
Can I please get some advice from people who have been through this and come out the other side, how long did the initial side effects last. The initial period is freaking me out so bad I have been procrastinating about taking this prescription for months. I'd love to hear from those who are on SSRI antidepressants and finding it working for their anxiety, may help to get me going. Thanks

Hello 30sumthin. I know how worried u can be starting a new medication but the more u put it off the less its able to help you. You wont know if theres any side effects etc unless u try it. It can take up to 6 weeks for the AD's to have their full effect. If you feel very sick after u start taking them o straight back to your doctor or if its really bad to your local Emergency department hospital. Im sure you will be ok. I know how anxiety can stop us from doing everyday things especially things that are good for us and can help us. Let us know how you are coping after u start taking your AD's. Always here if u need to chat. Take care x

Hi mate, the first 2/3 days are "annoying" but that's about it...having a cold or flu feels way worse than a harmless anti-depressant kicking in...don't stress at all about it..just think of the good things they will do...in 2 weeks u will feel much better!! Starting up on anti depressants is not hard at all...trust me mate!

Hey Danny thats some good advice there. Its not too bad 30sumthin u miht have a few off days but then u should start to feel better if its the right antidepressant for u. If its not and u still dont feel good and its been a month then u need to o back to your doc and try another one.
