SNRI confusion

Hi guys,

just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has experienced anything similar...

3 weeks ago I switched from an SSRI to an SNRI after a post natal depression diagnosis ( been on SSRI for 10 years and it stopped working 😞)

was super worried about the switch, but seemed to get through it without to much drama. The past week I’ve been feeling almost myself again which has be so wonderful- that is until today

woke up feeling depressed again and I have no idea why! Thi is so dis heartening and frustrating!!!!

now I’m starting to question everything and am terrified I’m going to slip back... I’m trying to be positive and give it time, it just seems so cruel that it would work and then stop.

has anyone experienced anything similar when starting SNRI’s? Does it pass and mood pick up? do you have down days that pass?

worried ( if you can’t tell!)

thanks 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Hello Hashimum, and a warm welcome to the forums.

I'm really sorry that you feel this has happened, and I'm not qualified to say, as I'm not a doctor, but from what happened to me several times, is that once I started a new AD I initially responded well to it, but then tapered off.

Nurse Jenn would be the person to answer this, so can you type this in the search bar at the very top of this page 'ask nurse Jenn', and she will reply to it.

Take care.

Geoff.

Hi there

I notice your post is a few months old now and I hope you are feeling better and sorted out your medication.

I am replying as I have had a very similar experience recently with Changing from an SSRI to an SNRI the only difference being I don’t have post natal depression, only Anxiety.

Like you I’ve been on SSRIs for years longer than you even, and after living happily with minimal anxiety symptoms for years the medication suddenly seemed to stop working and I started getting very anxious and depressed.

After discussing this with my GP she changed me to a SNRI saying that this was the latest new medication and it would work on an extra neurotransmitter in my brain.

the transition was smooth and I felt great for 3 months however then started getting super anxious again, after going back to GP she’s increased the dose saying I was only on the starting dose although that dose seemed quite high I thought.

I can usually manage my anxiety well, i know all the self help techniques that work for me I’ve seen physiologists in the past who have helped.

if you read this I would be interested to know how you’re feeling and I hope you are feeling better. Early Parenthood is a very difficult time
