So I've had generalized anxiety for 9 years now...(constant anxiety every second of the day) the last three months have got worse for me due to added stresses like work and now I've started to get depression... So long story short I went to see my psychiatrist again and she has told me there's no more drugs left to try she said nothing will work so there's no point even trying that route anymore. So its down to me to keep working on my cbt and all other coping strategies and she's told me to quit the meds I'm on now because their not helping. I haven't been at work for the last 2 weeks due to been so ill and was hoping she would at least give me something for the short time to help me or give me something else to try has anyone else been in the same position and what should I do?? I've been on eight different medications but nothing has helped... should I see another doctor to get a second opinion?

Hi there 🙂

I'm sorry to hear you're suffering so much from anxiety, and now have depression. It's an awful combination, that completely drains you. I too have anxiety and depression, although the anxiety is dominant. My anxiety was so bad last year, that I tried to kill myself to get rid of it, and was hospitalised for a week as a result.

I would definitely get a second opinion, as there are many alternative medications and therapies available. It took a while for me to get my meds right, but once I did, my anxiety improved dramatically. Is it possible for you to have a hospital stay if you feel really bad? It was the best thing I've ever done, and it was public hospital too. They listen, provide daily therapy, and you can try new meds in a safe environment. They also teach different coping techniques to help keep the anxiety at bay.

i hope to hear back from you soon 🙂

Hi FB, welcome

Get a second opinion but have all your documents and list of meds you've tried with you.

Also there are self help avenues. Starting this thread here is one of them. That results in brainstorming other sufferers here to receive non medical opinions, based on our own experiences. I think that this is under rated. So here goes-

I had severe anxiety, huge panic attacks in 1987 during a workplace incident. I was off work and sought therapy. Such therapy included-

Relaxation. Being taught "Muscle tensioning exercises" Look it up. Learn how to do them. Carry out this ritual every night when you enter bed. It will help you sleep and lower your heart rate.

Change of employment.

Budgeting so you don't stew over finances

Planned holidays. Google: Topic: cheap idea, camping- beyondblue

Removing toxic people from your life

Heaps of exercise

Introduce hobbies and sports.

Keep active, that will keep your mind off stressful things

Google: Topic: be radical- beyondblue

Google: Maharaji sunset................and Maharaji the perfect instrument

Maharaji is a man of clarity. He simplifies things. He makes sense.

Good luck Tony WK

hi FB, it's time you change psychiatrist's, obviously this one either doesn't have the correct knowledge or doesn't really care for you.
You could see a psychologist but your doctor will need to prescribe your medication for you on his suggestion, but the psych saying that there are no more drugs to help you wouldn't seem to be correct, as there is an enormous amount of different ones on the market.
Do as Tony said list the ones you were given to try, but this is important for you, so please let us know how you go. Geoff.
