Hi.
I just have a question about a MHTP please.
I am already seeing a psychologist who I don't g need a MHTP for but he said it may be helpful from my gps perspective for billing, care and filling in questionnaires etc.
But he also said that I do not need a referral as I am already seeing him (no cost).
Is it worth getting the plan and having it on my record)?
Thank you

Hi Natalie22,
If you are not paying anything out of pocket then a MHTP will not benefit you. However it will help your psychologist as they will receive the rebate from Medicare. If your psychologist suggested it, it may be worth getting (especially if you're not paying them). They're easy to get. Simply approach your GP and ask for a MHTP, you will be asked a few questions relating to your treatment then receive the referral.

Hi Natalie22,
Thanks for the update. No worries. It does not really benefit you in that case but as your psychologist mentioned, it may be useful to your GP so that they know you are seeing your specific psychologist and how many sessions you have had. I believe they also do a check in every 6 sessions or so.
