My head feels like it is in a big fog cloud. When I'm busy at work I'm feeling great, I feel very happy and even want to be very social with friends and love to get out and about and exercising is easy. When I'm NOT working I'm the opposite, I'm NOT motivated to get out and catch up with friends and the dread of when will my next work assignment come again?
I HATE waiting for work to come up for me, It's so frustrating, the annoying part is I have been trying so hard to get a full time job which is ongoing and has career prospects for so long and still can't seem to achieve this. Everyone else at 35 years of age has a full time ongoing job and has a house of their own or is buying one and I can't even have the opportunity to do this. Why can't someone give me a stable full time ongoing job with career prospects - surely this is NOT to much to ask.
I'm starting to think that there is something wrong with me. Seriously if a full time job with career prospects doesn't come along very soon then what's the point of hanging around on earth for. Obviously I'm NOT valued by any humans in the work force to being given an opportunity to contribute my skills, knowledge and experience.
Come on someone give me a go please. I would like to be able to work full time and buy a small shack or unit (nothing fancy) just something to call my own home to relax in when I'm NOT working.

Hi Buddy,
Welcome to the forums. We place a lot of value on work and career in society, so it's not out of the ordinary to feel anxious or depressed if your work situation is unpredictable: sounds like you are doing contract work?
This beyondblue booklet was developed for people who have recently lost their jobs, but it has some very useful information and practical exercises about dealing with the emotional impact of unemployment, which could help short-term with some of the problems you're facing: https://www.bspg.com.au/dam/bsg/product?client=BEYONDBLUE&prodid=BL/0373&type=file
What do you think has been holding you back with your job applications? Have you been getting to the interview stage? Does your CV need to be revamped? What sort of work are you looking for, and probably most importantly, what do you want to be doing?
I think you're being hard on yourself by thinking something is wrong with you, and by placing 100% of your self-worth on how you make a living. You are not the only person at your age and in this situation - knowing this doesn't help, I realise, but hopefully it might make you see that it's not your fault.
You're understandably angry and depressed by the situation you're in; I would suggest arranging some counselling through your doctor so you can talk about these feelings; at the very least it will help give you some confidence-boosting skills so you can ride out this tough period of not being able to find full-time work.
Does anyone have employment advice for Buddy?
best
CB
