Getting a repeat prescription from a new GP

Hello, I'm just wondering if anyone can help me out with this question. I have been going to the same GP for the last few years, she is the one who did my original mental health plan and prescribed my antidepressant which I have been on for almost 2 years. I've moved since then and have been driving 45 minutes to see her because I didn't want to see anyone else. Now she is on indefinite leave & I will have to see another doctor, and I figure I may as well see someone close to where I live now. I'm just wondering whether I'll have to get my medical history sent to my new GP in order to continue getting repeat prescriptions for my medication, or will explaining my medial history, and maybe showing my current prescription to the new doctor be enough to get them to keep prescribing repeats?

Hoping someone has experience with this and can help 🙂 thank you!

Hi there thanks for reaching out to us. Yes generally the new doctor will ask for ur medical history to b sent over this is just they have all your information infront of them when in consolation with you. Generally this happens bw surgeries all uv have to do is sign the consent form for the process to go ahead.  The other option may work depends on the clinics and doctors you see but most ofc the time they prefer to have your medical records handy. Hope this has helped take care now xx Venessa

dear Elea, what Fairywings has said is right, however it depends on whether your medical history has many issues which the new doctor would need to know about, and when you see your new doctor and show them the box of antidepressants (AD) then they would like to know about why you are on them, so really it would be good to get your files transferred. Geoff.
