Finding work with Depression

I have left a career that spanned 14 years.

Now I am unemployed and unable to get benefits due to my partner earning too much.

I spend many of my days in bed with depression...unable to get motivated. I fear for my future, and feel isolated, sad and alone.

My Psychiatrist tells me to get a simple job, like filling shelves in Supermarkets....I would actually like that, but no application seems to get me the job, just rejection.

Hi Turtle eyes

not easy at all..I am like over qualified and a lot of the jobs i apply for don't really want to take me on. But its important to keep at it...even something casual. Have you tried volunteering ?? I volunteered at far share one or two hours ...just to get you out and about.

I have an interview tmrw which I am nervous about too...lol

Try just rocking up to cafes/ restaurants and just put your name down ...u be surprised how many are looking.

Best of luck ...keep posting 🙂 welcome to this forum

I have found if I have wanted a job even if it meant a pay cut, I have left out qualifications I have just to get a job. Sometimes the employer has been surprised how quick I have taken to a job. Only to find out I was all ready trained in that job or a similar job. Sometimes all I have needed was a foot in the door watched how to do an aspect of a different job then transferred to that position. getting a pay rise. So don't give up even playing a little dumber than you are, might get you a part time job. Even if it's working in a fruit and vegie shop.

Good luck with your interview tomorrow Isabel.

Turtle eyes,

Welcome to the forum. this is a supportive and caring place.

It is hard to motivate oneself and handle rejection when depressed.

Would it be possible to do some volunteer work for one day or two a week to build up your confidence to work when depressed?

I run my own business and I am not sure if you can make things or start a small business on FB or even having a monthly market stall. There are lots of possibilities but I am not sure if any can suit you.

Let me know what you think of my suggestions.

Take care

Hi turtle eyes

great name btw...hahaha

kanga-brumby is right...we have to dumb down our qualifications...sad but true 🙂

I think another thing is ..also really try and find what drives you ...what fuels your passion ...and go towards that direction.

I was in the wrong industry and didn't find satisfaction but I am determined I will get there.

And I am gonna manifest that I be rocking it in my interview tmrw. Hahah what they say about faking it til you make it...hahah

Good luck with your search ...keep us posted
