Depressed, anxious and overwhelmed.

I am a Mom of four kids, part time ER nurse and wife. We have two cats and two dogs. I love my job and my family but have struggled with depression since I was a teenager and since two years ago have been struggling with anxiety and panic attacks. I am on seven different medications for depression, anxiety and insomnia. I am followed by a psychiatrist and psychologist. I am not getting better. I am sitting here at two o'clock in the afternoon still in my nightie, house dirty and cluttered and feeling completely overwhelmed and anxious. I want my kids to have their Mom back and my husband to have his wife back. Is there some natural remedies I could do that work? I.e diet, homeopathic remedies...

Hi momoffour,  welcome here at Beyond Blue forums.

You are doing everything right considering your condition. You are seeing professional people and you are on medication. Your medication alone will make you sleepy and lack of energy. But it is protecting you from the symptoms of your illness so they dont become worse.

You are worried about not living up to your responsibilities of motherhood and being a wife. If you havent done so, you need to sit down with all the members of your cherished family and explain to them exactly how serious this illness is and the impact on your well being. This will allow them to accept better the way you appear (eg nighty at 2pm) and seem (drugged appearance) and act (not yourself). It will also allow them to address queries form other family and friends without those people placing rpessure on you.

You need rest. At this time in your life mentally breaking down is understandable and you should not be feeling guilty over this at all.  We also know that you should wait and allow this depression, which could be a cycle, to be allowed to take its course without any pressure from yourself or others to "snap out of it".

Continue to attend your psych session and one step at a time. There are also heaps of threads on this site (see recovery section) that can help you along the process.  Take care and dont feel bad. It's ok. The world wont fall in because you are in your nighty at 2pm. REST.
