Hi, I'm Tash im nearly 21 and I've battled severe separation anxiety for 16 years and depression for about 10 years now.
ive never been a big fan of anti depressants and never wanted to take them. But I've tried so many different techniques to help my anxiety but nothing has helped long term.
This week I went to my GP and asked about more options and he suggested anti depressants. I brought them but still haven't taken them.
I was wondering on people's thought on anti depressants and if they have helped you?
i struggle day to day with my anxiety and the past couple of weeks it has been worst. I know always about anxiety and depression, but I've heard good and bad things about taking medication for them.
i just wanted to make sure I'm making the right decision by starting anti depressants.
Thanks for reading guys xx

dear Taash, hi and welcome to BB.
I'm sorry about how you feel, and I presume separation anxiety must be about your parents, and please correct me if I'm wrong.
There are people who refuse to take antidepressants (AD) for their own reason, that's their choice, but if they are suffering badly then really there is no other choice but to go on AD, because depression can't be overcome by yourself, although you may think that you can tackle it, but only for the minor details, because the server problems are never tackled, they hurt too much.
Suffering 10 years with depression is a hell of a long time, and if you had started taking them you might be at a stage where you can control it, but that period has elapsed, so now I think that you should start taking them.
Can I just say that the first AD may not work or the side-effects won't be what you want, but that's not to put you off, because there maybe none at all, and like a lot of us we had to try half a dozen or so, but this is no different to any other medication for an illness, as the doctor may have to give you different medicine to make you better.
I know that they work, because if I miss out taking them for a day I suddenly fall into crying at anything, but as soon as I take them I become so much better.
Let us know how you go. L Geoff. x

Hi geoff, it's now day 6 with taking half a tablet and I'm doing okay. I've asked a lot of people close to me the have or is still on AD and they said it makes you feel a whole lot better. I'm now a bit more confident taken them now.
and yes your right about my separation anxiety being about my parents. I never had a stable parent and a trouble up bring which didn't help but it has made me a stronger person. My relationship with my parents now is great and there stable and happy. I'm very close with my mum and she's been a great support over the years.
Im hoping these AD do work. I just wanted to hear from other people on what they think about taking them.
Thank you for your reply, it was very helpful 😊
