1. Reach out to family and/or friends to feel supported - this also covers support groups - online or face to face. Don't let stigma stop you from reaching out.
2. Relationship boundaries - identify what is acceptable and not. My general platform is that physical abuse is unacceptable as well as regular demeaning/berating comments. Communicate this openly so everyone understands.
3.
4. Knowledge is power - research to understand about depression. The more you know, the better care you can provide.
5. Remember your partner in the good times - this is their true selves, not the darkness.
6. Listen and show receptivity - without judgement or anger. If communicate becomes strained, the timeout can provide clarity. Encourage communication gently and try not to push.

Sorry to hear that! Here's a bit more detail and some images to help you.
At the top of each section is a blue "new thread" button. Clicking on this will open a dialog box for you to start a new thread. You need to be registered as a member and logged in to see this button and post.

You can start new threads in any section, except for the Long Term Support Over The Journey section, where the new thread button has been disabled.
If you're not able to see this button after logging in and navigating to the section you'd like to post to (for example, the Welcome & Orientation section here), please reach out to us by email at modsupport@beyondblue.org.au. Please attach a screenshot to your email if possible.
We hope that helps.
Thank you for letting us know about this Bonnie B!
Kind regards,
Sophie M
