What's the best random act of kindness you've ever received?

Hey guys,

I'm sure there is already a thread for this type of thing so I hope it's okay if I start another one? I was wondering if people could share a random act of kindness they've received that still makes them smile. It could be from a stranger or from someone you know. I'll go first and hopefully get the ball rolling:

Once I was walking home alone at night and I happened to pass a group of 3 boys who all looked to be about 15/16. A few moments after we'd passed, I started to hear footsteps running behind me. I turned around to see one of the boys running back to me. He then started to ask me whether I wanted him and his friends to walk with me, so that I didn't have to walk alone. Even though we were going in opposite directions.

I politely declined, since I don't really have any problem with walking alone. But I found it so nice because he seemed so genuinely concerned.

I have so many stories I could have shared but I chose this one because people seem to think that young kids these days are really disrespectful, which really isn't true. Some of them may be. But I find that heaps of kids these days are really well mannered and considerate of others. But then I'm a little biased since I'm still young-ish.

Anyways, would love it if people could share some more stories for me to read!

I love RAOK stories 😊

So keeping with the theme of young people, I had a full shopping trolley and was trying to keep my baby under an umbrella and get to my car (opps, it was pouring down). This teenager, looking about 14 or so, politely asked to hold the umbrella over the baby.

Bub was dry and the boy and I soaked. He helped load the car, took the trolley back and wouldn't take a few dollars for helping. Said he likes babies and it's bad for them to get wet.

another great one was I had a young guy knock on my door to tell me my car headlights were on. Then waited to see if the battery was flat and then jumped started it for me.

So many great people out there 😊

Thanks for the thread you made me smile

Hi,

This is a wonderful thread and I'm glad that you started it! Reading your stories warms my heart 🙂

The best one that I can think of is something that happened earlier this year. I was taking my dog for a walk and I had a seizure on the pavement. It was a bad one; I don't remember much and it was in the middle of the road.

When I came to I was super shaky, confused and wobbly - but also a bit far from home. There were these people driving past and they stopped and helped me. They must have rolled me over, pulled me to my feet and took me and my dog home.

Even thinking about it now still makes me smile, because it was such a terrible day and so many things could have gone wrong. We're always told as kids never talked to strangers but I feel like they really saved me that day.

My surprise was in rehab.

I wake up to find a bloke standing at the end of my bed smiling.

Do you smoke he asked. I nodded yes. Slowly he place 5 smokes on my bed, then walked away.

I found out later that he hasnt spoken a word to anyone since being there.

I'd like to see this thread kept going so will put in my 2 cents

One day I tucked $20 into my T shirt pocket before going into the deli for bread & milk. In the shop I saw a teenage girl who looked ... well, piercings, tattoos, coloured hair etc ... so of course I kept well clear of her.

When I got to the counter to pay for my purchases I found the $20 was no longer in my pocket which was real embarrassing. So guess who walked up to me and politely said "Excuse me sir, I think you dropped this" ... and 'that girl' handed me my $20.

This is a great thread.

When my son was little, about 20 years ago he was going to stay with his dad for 3 weeks. His father and I didn't get along, so we would park on opposite sides of a park and my son would run over to the other car. About 20 metres away. I was heartbroken and sitting in my car balling my eyes out.

A lovely young lady came over to me and asked if I was ok and if I wanted a chat. A random act of kindness I'll never forget.
