Hey to anyone reading this.
Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.
OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.
So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......
I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Hi Shell,
Yes that's the kind of boxing we do plus kicks as well. We break up the pad sessions with stuff like sets of sit ups, jumping squats, shuttle runs etc (for added ouch). I find it very fun as we egg each other on, encourage and laugh along the way. It's good fun.
I have a garden yes. It's mostly tame but has moments of wild. I own the house, (mortgage), so I feel obligated to be a responsible adult. I used to have a free range pet bunny here for many years until she died last year. I miss her crankiness lol!!!
I'm tired from my gym work today. Went a bit over the top lol.

How cute a free range pet bunny Chae. So he or she didn't like hop away or dig out? What was its name? I had a white bunny when growing up. She wasn't that friendly and did not like cuddles of any kind. Her name was "Twitchy".
Yes I thought that boxing looked rather fun too. And I am quite excited to try it out. You sound like you really like it. Hopefully I will be fit enough to have a go at it soon, as presently I am not sure I could keep up with the rest of them.
Have a good day tomorrow everyone!

Hey Shell,
Her name was many things lol... but her kind of politically correct name was "Akubra". I've a dark sense of humour. Akubra hats are made from rabbit pelts.
I think it was July / August when she died. Was a cold cold morning.
She was a terror though. Demanding and used to break into the house, (doggy door).
I think I need more pets again.

I did laugh C, as I have a very vivid imagination. And I saw one determined and mischievous bunny trying it's best to shove its body through a small doggy door. Maybe it just wanted company or something. .. And that is an unusual name there.
Yeah may be you should get another pet. What about a dog, then you could go walking with them.
Shell xx

I had a dog too... for 16 years and she died a year ago.
Walkies / jogging together was a daily event until her health deteriorated.
Today I'm walking everywhere, to the train, dentist and doctor. That's my initial exercise today.... then gym again.

Thanks Shell. Glad you are getting to the gym regularly. Walking/talking with your sister sounds great. You get exercise without even noticing & a chance for good social contact both excellent for mental health. My sister lives OS so I can't walk with her. We are keeping our plans for the trip up the coast very loose. When we were young we would often change our mind about where to go on holidays after we started driving depending on our mood or the weather or whatever came up. We never worried about booking accommodation as we would sleep in tents in free campsites or later when we had a van we often slept in the van to save time setting up camp. Since my husband has been sick this is much harder so we are experimenting to see what works. We also need to be able to abort a trip if his condition worsens while away. We will see how far we can get up the coast but will stop if we are finding it too tiring or difficult.
Yes I was really happy with my daughters reply to my question & they were given freely with her elaborating on things more than I expected. It is nice to feel appreciated. I am lucky with my children particularly my daughters & the son who lives near us.

I haven't posted here for ages and am trying to find the motivation to get back into exercise daily like I was before Christmas.
A friend told me about Leslie Sansone, she does walking videos with light hand weights (a tin of food light). There's heaps on youtube and she has her own channel
I thought I'd mention it for anyone who's financially crippled, complains about the heat and uses every other possible excuse to not exercise, like me...it's time to get over it and get up and move. I'm (re)starting tomorrow

Hello Elizabeth, Chae, Mrs D, Taurus, Narelle and anyone reading.....
Hey Narelle, thanks heaps for telling us about Leslie Sansone, I googled her on YouTube. I ended up watching a "1 mile happy walking work out" Are you going to follow along with her exercise? It does look fun. Personally I do like a bit of variety, so I may give it a go too. Like what you said there"It is time to get over it and get up and move". You sound real determined, and good on you!
Yeah I agree Elizabeth, I do find it helpful in a physical and emotional way to walk and talk with my sister. It can release the hormone oxytocin, well I think that is what it is called. That sounds like a very spontaneous sort of holiday your family use to go on. What fun...... Have you been walking up and down those steps or resting up a bit? And did you finish your photo book the other day?
Hi Chae, I am sorry about your loss of your dog last year. I am not sure what else to say about that. Wow the dentist and doctor in one day, suppose you get it over with in one hit. You seem quite active today too, it's inspiring. Good on you!
Well I haven't done any exercise at all today, Just feeling rather tired. Oh I did walk down to the end of the street, then crossed over and made my way to buy some hot chips and gravy. When the weather is rainy, I sometimes feel like them. And yeah I know they are not that healthy....

After 2 hours of exercise today you'd think I would be able to sleep.
Nope.
😕
Too much on my mind......
