Walking Shoes - Walking and Other Exercise

Hey to anyone reading this.

Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.

OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.

So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......

I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Went for a bit of a walk with my little nephew baby. He is so so cute and I love him. I pushed his pram up a small hill. I pointed out the ducks to him saying quack quack. It did start to rain some so I connected this weatherproof cover on to his pram. He thought it was great and was tapping the plastic and giggling. As I was pushing the pram he was talking his baby talk. We had to make our way back because the rain was getting heavier. I did find it challenging pushing this pram down a hill , holding an umbrella in one hand. And I keep checking him because the covering was covering all if the pram. And I thought could he breathe in there. Then I saw like a circle of open holes in the plastic on the side. That made me feel better seeing those. And he was nice and dry

Today I went out on a longish walk out on the main road near my place. There is pretty much a path all the way along. It goes up a slight hill, up to the lights near the primary school. We keep walking. And more walking. We cross over a narrow bridge which is over a body of water..like a muddy wetlands pond. We keep walking with wetlands on the right of us. I noticed a tall white water bird perched on a fence. It was a very clean white with skinny long legs. And quite a long almost curvy neck. I am not sure what it was. It was super skinny and elegant looking. I will look it up soon. I looked at it fly away into the wetlands. We kept heading towards a roundabout which is situated at the very end of the freeway. We heading back from there. All the way from which we had come and some more. As we veered to the left at the lights near the primary school. And walked towards the supermarket to buy some coconut water. I was feeling like a refreshing smoothie. After buying that we heading back home.

Smoothie serves 1 person

1 cup cocobella coconut water

1 peeled and chopped orange

1 - 2 pitted medjool dates chopped

1 cup frozen strawberries

1/2 cup frozen mango

Blend in a powerful blender

It was very cold to drink on a winters day.

An egret I think that bird was.

Today I went walking with my sister around that park that we use to walk around. It was nice to feel some sunshine. We walked 3 laps of it. So about 2 hours

Walked on out on the breakwall. I felt some sunshine, the warmth felt healing. Felt a bit of a refreshing breeze. I am trying to remember what else.... Once we got to the end of the breakwall I looked out upon the ocean and there quite a few seagulls just blopping along with the gentle waves. They were in a group. Some were getting up from their blopping then just flying a bit scattered then down they would rest again . My thoughts were a many fish just under the water or maybe a whale. Whales are know to be here in winter I think heading more north. I only looked at them for a bit.

I thought about the comfy rock I called it and how it can not be seen any more because they put huge concrete bolders in that particular area. I used to sit on this rock because it was flat and in a good spot with a nice view.

On the walk back I heard singing. A female singing xanodoo ( not sure about the spelling) . But her voice was pretty.

I am thank I walked

Today I walked with baby nephew and his mumma around that same park as I walk with my sister.

Yesterday I went walking out on the breakwall. I am thankful I did. I felt some winter sunshine on my body. I felt the fresh breeze on my face. That invigorating feeling one. As it was a Sunday there were many people out and about out there. I heard the horn on a cargo ship echoing in the air and watched it moving out towards the ocean with the tug boats beside it.

I watched two people get sprayed with water from a splash coming over. I am sometimes mindful of a incoming splash because I can hear like a fast roar just seconds before and can move more out of the way. And I notice wet sections on the concrete stone path there from previous splashes. The splashes are pretty much in the same place each time, like their are maybe gaps in the actual large boulders in the wall itself were the splashes get through.

I walked to the end and walked back again.

How nice is it to lay my head down on a sun dried pillowcase and lay on fresh washed sheets. They just all smell so nice and fresh. Even more so for some reason when I have spend almost 2 hours walking out near the beach. Strolling mostly in the fresh air and the sunshine.

Went for a walk along the main road path in my neighbourhood today. I did experience an emotion of " I just can't be bothered walking feeling" if that is an emotion. Not sure. But it was a challenge to get myself up and simply go.

Once I made the decision and got going and after a little while I started to almost enjoy the walk.

About the halfway mark and on the right of me I heard bell birds up in the 🌲 trees. I really like listening to their sing songy call, it is such a beautiful noise. I was attempting to drain out the other noise on the far left of me... the noise of the cars and other vehicles driving past. I managed to do it some. There were other bird noises too up in the trees. So pretty. I noticed an old hat strung on a branch off one of the trees. I walked closer to investigate, weird looking. And I think it was a very old hat with tuffs of decomposing straw coming out of it and bits of attached fabric. The fence that used to run along this path is now gone. So I could see more of what used to be behind the fence. Perhaps this tree with the hat hanging off it was behind the fence. There is wetlands beyond all that then a train line beyond that.

This walk took about the same amount of time as yesterday. I had another smoothie when I got home. Orange, coconut water, dates, mango and strawberry.

Went on out for a walk to the shop which is about a 20 minute walk one way. Bought some washing up gloves. On the way back I stopped to smell this beautiful rose in someone's front garden. It smelt lovely

I am up at mums and runner/ sniffer dogs place. We just got home from a long walk , I am thankful I walked but pretty tired at the moment.

This walk follows a path that winds around inlets and outlets of water that flows into a major river that flows into the ocean. There are homes a ways back from this path,it is a challenge to describe what it is like. The houses are sort of built in a curved shape around the path.

Anyways it was a lovely walk. We heard some beautiful sounding birds way up in the trees. It was so very pretty of a song. I couldn't see the birds so maybe they were very tiny.
