Three self-care things you did today!

We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.

Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!

Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.

Best wishes
EM

Hi all,
This is such a good thread.
Its so nice to hear all the different ways you all do self care.

I saw a friend
Did some yoga
Felt tired so had a nap.

Im making a change to do what I want more often.

Thanks for that EM

@Tayla - there is a saying something like this better to ask a question and be a fool for a day than not ask the question and be a fool for a lifetime. Since I started seeing my psychologist she asked me the do various types of journals at different times. Each time I had to do these, I would have to start with a Google search because I could never find things to be thankful, or look forward to, or ... Perhaps another reason for searching was that feeling of being stupid if I had to ask anyone. Don't stop asking questions 🙂

For today...

1. listening to some tech/death metal

2. reading

3. have not touched phone since I got home

Thanks smallwolf.

I also love metal too, how cool! I guess self care is different for everyone. As EM said earlier, wash your face. I do that morning & night. At night I put a face mask on afterwards sometimes (the ones you wash off lol). Sometimes it's relaxing.

@Tayla,

without taking this thread on some tangent we could chat about musical self-care here...

listening to music is one of my gotos

i know i personally took ages to feel comfortable with the term self-care

but it has kept me alive... we all need it. I think as kids we naturally take breaks (lunch break, recess, sport, reading, computer games.... whatever...) and as adults some times we forget to allow ourselves to rest.

So true Sleepy, yeah.

I like that sentence you posted, food for thought! Then action lol... hand in hand we're getting there sweet girl.

Hey Not_Batman, your psych has NEVER asked you that question or one similar? um wow.
Usually I find Helpline psychs and Counsellors ask a question like that at the end of the call.
They give suggestions if you can't answer lol.

My MH support ppl have BUT no one has made self-care a MAJOR focus.
Knowing that research shows clearly that ppl who DO do self-care have a greater recovery rate from MH issues, well that's the rub.

Hey smallwolf, PLEASE Take this thread on ANY tangent your wonderful heart desires lol!
LOVING your posts. Had to laugh at the phone one lol!! Loved it.

Hey Guest_630, the people who are on this thread make it. I come in here and it's like settling down in a comfy bean bag lol. Feeling the self-care!

Hey Tayla, you're all over this self-care thang! A face mask too? WELL DONE YOU.
I think you do more self-care than you realise.

Absolutely listening to our CHOICE of music is GREAT!

Great going self-carers, so proud of our efforts.

My SC today:

* got out of bed, even though I didn't want to lol, I'm glad I did now. 🥱

* dealt with more difficult things to do with the car disposal, so glad I did that too now lol, it's BEHIND me now YAY! All but 1 more thing I can't do until Monday. This was darned hard for me with triggers but I'm so glad I pushed thru! Almost $500 will be in the bank from that soon.
Happy days.

* listened to some of Dr Levine and, as hard as some stuff is to hear, it helped me make more sense of early trauma. Limiting this work to 1h per day, with days off too.

* made a fancy special lunch for the kids and I since they'll all be going out with their friends tonight - for a change. Nice change, they work so much. 😋

* bought some great "organisational" things from the Reject Shop today, they'll help keep our stuff alot more organised. This will help clear my head, help the kids know where stuff "belongs" lol now to see whether they USE them hahaha. 🤔😍

Who's up for some gardening tomorrow?
My plants and I will be ROCKING to Red Hot Chilli Peppers lol.

Hi em.

this may sound strange, but while gardening today i was singing some chilli peppers.

from above, no i cant recall ever being asked the question “how can you help yourself today”. That said there were a loooooot of questions.

todays SC

finished sanding, and added the first clear coat. I can see all of the imperfections, but i know i cannot make it absolutely perfect. It still looks good though.

did some gardening. Chopping back the tree branches so they dont scratch the cars. It was like a million degrees here so may not have been the best day to do it. Although its done and i dont have to worry about it at all now.

Had a good laugh at some jokes and sent some to friends and family. I’ll pop one on the worst joke Wednesday thread later.

have a lovely weekend everyone.

Not_Batman

hey all

im enjoying this conversation...

I've been asked that a lot on helplines... Or they say "what are you going to do after the call"
"What's something you can do to take care of urself today?" "What's one thing you can do after the call to help...etc"

sometimes being put on the spot makes me come up with something

then they say It sounds like you have some really good self-care strategies in place

lol... i've done this a few times.

No shame 🙂
