There isn't much use in "hoping"

A Facebook message said"I hope 2017 is a better year than 2016".

The word "hope" in that phrase , to me is a hollow word. Its sort of like, the writer has no say in their own destiny...they are relying on luck.

The good thing about a "been there done that" life is that one immediately notices a bad attitude or in this case an attitude relying on luck rather that an attitude of progressive determination.

That fact is, we shape our own future and yes there are unexpected tragedies and financial problems and the like that hinder our positivity. But overall, a positive attitude will see you have a better year next year through determination.

List your new years resolutions. Eg

I won't take abuse anymore

I will set aside rest times

I will listen to my friends problems

Etc.

Luck plays little part in our future. I believe we shape our own future with being decisive, taking action, researching things we don't know and building relationships.

What do you think about this?

Good luck!

Hey WK,

To me the word luck and hope, can be very 'empty' words...if taken out of context.

For me, its ALL about context.

Sometimes I do use the word HOPE because the word as a noun, simply means to aspire and expect a positive outcome for oneself or another.

And, I appreciate that!

But, these days just like the word LOVE...which has been used in ways that muddy its real meaning.

Words like - hope, faith, trust and love have lost their true intentional value with many.

I feel that the words that one uses reflect ones soul, and I would just read that ..."I hope that 2017 is better than 2016 etc", as a quaint way to express... may you be happy and well, next year etc etc...

And leave it at that.

Some people use words in a glib way, without overthinking it.

Sometimes though, I wish I was more simple-minded and less educated, because I really love the English language and love using words salaciously, to bring about tantalising imagery in the mind of the reader.

But, some just look at me...as if I am some insane librarian zombie-freak!

But, thats just me.

I love words.

And, finding new ways to use all the words at my disposal to express myself.

I hope that you've had a good day!

Best of luck with everything.

LuvYa.

Hi Tony,

Couldn't agree more. You need to take control of your life to see positive changes, hoping you get that job promotion, hoping you will get healthier, hoping you will move houses, hoping you will change you attitude towards things only sets us up for undeserved failure.

If you have read my posts, you will see I am big on trying to find the positive in things, and i mean anything, trying to pick the positive out of even a crappy situation and try to learn and grow from it. A positive mindset is a hell of a thing and one we should all work on creating for ourselves.

Great post Tony.

My best, as always.

Jay

See, when you say you're TRYING etc etc etc...

TRYING to me, is just as weak as hoping can be.

Hi Sourceshield,

I recall a great North Melbourne AFL coach said to his players at 3/4 time in a grand final "don't think...do"!!! That basically what I'm saying. I fear some members might be in a habit of procrastinating not aware of their power to change course by themselves.

I concur, completely.

Thank you for being a great, and inspired leader here at BB, Tony.

Hey Tony

I find the word hope similar to the word tattslotto...It seems watery and way too distant.

Slow small steps towards building a better life represents affirmative action that with perseverance will bring positive change.

I think the movie 'Castaway' with Tom Hanks on a deserted island would be a more suitable time to use the hope word if had little to zero chance.

My Best

Hi Paul

You are right, Castaway, love that movie. The best time to "hope".
